Chelsea once again finds itself in the spotlight as the Blues prepare to play on the Premier League’s biggest stage for the second consecutive weekend. Thomas Tuchel’s men easily dispatched of Arsenal last weekend at the Emirates Stadium, continuing their fine form to begin the season. Their opponent on Saturday, Liverpool, has matched their enthusiastic start with some fireworks of their own.

If not for West Ham‘s drubbing of Leicester City (you can thank the Foxes for picking up a red card just before halftime), fans would’ve been treated to a top of the table tussle. The Irons’ fine form from their first two games sees them top the table and the Blues and Reds are left vying for the second spot. Nevertheless, it’s sure to be a clash of the titans between two Premier League heavyweights. It’s two of the best German managers in the world squaring off with one another from the touchline where each represents one of England’s giants.

Liverpool vs Chelsea preview: Saturday’s Premier League clash from Anfield

This game not only has mouthwatering storylines, but there is no lack of entertainment either. On one side sits the Champions of Europe with their shiny new toy in striker Romelu Lukaku. The £97.5 million man bullied Arsenal’s defense—specifically Pablo Mari—en route to scoring his first goal for the club in his second debut. He faces a much tougher test in Virgil van Dijk on Saturday. He won’t have to conquer that mountain alone though. In Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount and others, Chelsea has a plethora of attacking talent. Tuchel will not sit back and let the game come to his side, he’ll go for all three points at Anfield.

Liverpool, on the other hand, likely won’t sit back either. The Reds will want to put on a show in front of a packed Kop as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Co. look to add to their goal tallies. This will be one of the most entertaining matches of the year for neutrals as two of the English top flight’s best attacking styles clash on one of football’s sacred pitches.

It’d be silly to promote this contest as a season-altering bout, but that’s exactly what it feels like. Liverpool and Chelsea have both shrugged off lesser opponents with ease during the first two weeks of the 2021/22 domestic campaign. It’s now time for them to put their skills to the test in a game that means so much more than a simple three points. The winner of this one will carry momentum into some big fixtures that lie ahead. Both will look to dethrone Manchester City within the next few weeks, a victory on Saturday could work wonders for each squad’s confidence. Regardless, this is what Premier League football is all about. The storylines are there, the previews have been written and now there’s only one thing left for each side to do: settle it on the pitch.
