Chelsea team news

For the first time this season, it seems the Blues are relatively healthy in the key areas. Christian Pulisic will more than likely miss out due to COVID-19 and the status of Ruben Loftus-Cheek is unknown at this point. Otherwise, it’s business as usual for Chelsea. Lukaku is a guarantee to start up top after making his debut last week. Further, we could see Premier League season debuts for both Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva at some point. Neither has appeared in a contest this season after returning from international duty. The latter failed to play at all, so Tuchel has taken his time building his match fitness back up. On the other hand, Silva is getting a bit of a break after an exhausting Copa America campaign.

The big talking points—aside from those mentioned above—are the capacities in which N’Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech will feature. Both suffered injuries in the UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal and were absent against Crystal Palace in the opener. Ziyech made a brief cameo against Arsenal and Kante made the bench, their status’ for Saturday are unknown. If one were to start though, it’d likely be Kante.

Lastly, Chelsea will be without a familiar face on the bench. Kurt Zouma, a long-time regular in the Blues’ first team, is in the process of completing his permanent transfer to West Ham. Jules Kounde looks to be replacing the Frenchman in the Blues’ first team, but he will not be registered (or maybe even signed) in time for Liverpool. Therefore, expect to see Trevoh Chalobah on the bench in Zouma’s place.

Liverpool team news

Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were both given compassion leave, after a death in the family and birth of a child respectively, last week. Both are expected back for the battle with the Blues, which gives Klopp a plethora of options in the middle of the park. James Milner is Liverpool’s only real question mark after picking up a knock. Even then, it’s unlikely he would’ve made the starting XI. Andy Robertson seems to have worked his way back from an injury. He was only able to make the reserves against Burnley, but he seems ready to get back into the swing of things when Chelsea comes to town.
