Transfer rumors: Chelsea may lose one of its best players soon
Chelsea is a team that is seriously aiming for the stars at the moment. Last season, the Blues were the UEFA Champions League winners and this season, they have already won the UEFA Super Cup. This is the first time in years that the club has looked like genuine title contenders and a lot of top players would love to play for Chelsea. Even though it seems like the Blues are one of the biggest clubs at the moment and all the big names would want to put on that Three-sponsored kit, they might be at the risk of losing one of their best players soon.
29-year-old Jorginho was undoubtedly one the most influential players for Chelsea last season. The former Napoli man was not always the most impactful player at Stamford Bridge and his ability was often questioned by critics and fans alike. However, last season the Italian showed what he is actually made of and why the Blues paid almost £60 million for him. The midfielder seemed much more at home and he has now settled into the Premier League.

Jorginho’s agent hints that the player could leave Chelsea in order to return back to Italy
The regista—alongside N’Golo Kante—created one of the best duos in the PL and what Jorginho lacked in sheer pace and tackling, he more than made up for with his vision and creativity. When the Italian first came in, there was a misconception about him that he would be the next Mesut Ozil or Kevin de Bruyne. Yes, he possesses a lot of vision and can provide some extraordinary passes. However, the reigning UEFA Men’s Player of the Year likes to play a deeper role and control the whole pace of the game according to his will.
This allowed Kante to move forward while Jorginho dictated the play in midfield. He was also Chelsea’s top domestic goalscorer, albeit all of his goals did come from penalties. His role in Italy’s victory in the Euros was instrumental, and he was often called the conductor of the orchestra. His performances for Chelsea and Italy won him the UEFA Player of the Year and he could also go on to win the Ballon d’Or if he has a great season until December.
Although everything is going his way and he is finally settling into the club, it seems like he wants to return to Italy. According to his agent, Joao Santos, the player’s dream is to return to Italy. He still has two years left on his contract with Chelsea though. He also confirmed that when Maurizio Sarri was coaching Juventus, there was a possibility of him joining the Old Lady.
However, now that he is with the European Champions, why does he still want to move back? Well, firstly he did not say that he wants to leave the club—his agent did. Agents often make up stories to increase the value of the player and Jorginho’s agent is known for being particularly vocal. In this case, it could be a scare tactic in order for the Blues to offer him a contract with better wages. However, if the player does want to leave the club, it could be because of his love for Napoli. The Italian side gave him his first break and he has an undying love for the Naples side.
Now that he has won the Champions League, the Europa League and the Super Cup with Chelsea, the midfielder may think that his time is close to up with the club. He could return back to his home in Italy having conquered European football. However, all of this is speculation as he has never mentioned anything about wanting to leave the club. If he were to leave the club, it would leave the Blues weakened a bit. However, with the likes of Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Saul Niguez and Billy Gilmour in the squad, the London side would bounce back immediately.
The signing of Saul might be a foreshadowing for things to come, but we should take Jorginho’s agent’s words with a pinch of salt. There are many agents who regularly say that their client will be moving, but at the end of the day, nothing happens. Most recently, Paul Pogba’s agent was raving about the Frenchman moving to Paris Saint-Germain, yet it seems that Pogba is quite happy at Manchester United. Thus, we can’t always trust agents. Nevertheless, this is still worrisome as Jorginho is one of Chelsea’s best players and without him, life would become a lot harder for the Blues.
