The Best FIFA Men’s Player award is right around the corner and Chelsea fans have every right to be very excited. The prestigious award—which is handed out by FIFA—was previously known as the FIFA Ballon d’Or award from 2010 to 2015. In those years, only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo secured the award. In 2016, FIFA broke away from France Football and created the Best FIFA Men’s Player award. This prestigious award was first won by Ronaldo and last won by Robert Lewandowski. This year, however, the award may fall into the hands of a midfielder rather than a forward, and Chelsea fans will be hoping that their players get the recognition that they deserve.

Last year, Polish striker Lewandowski won the award after a brilliant sextuple-winning season. There was no other man to contest him in all fairness and he would have even won the Ballon d’Or had it not been canceled. This season, however, there are a lot of candidates who could win the trophy and no one can be guaranteed a winner. Clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester City all have players who performed incredibly last season, but only one can win the award and it might be the Blues who will celebrate this time.

The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year is right around the corner and a couple of players from Chelsea have a high chance of winning it.

The award has generally been given to forwards and strikers, apart from Luka Modric in 2018. This shows that there is a clear bias towards goal-scoring players. Players like Jorginho, Joshua Kimmich and others might go under the radar, even if they have a fantastic solo season. In 2019, when Virgil Van Dijk was tipped to win this award, as well as the Ballon d’Or, he ended up winning neither. This is a reality which we must accept. Nevertheless, Chelsea fans should always keep hope.

Thus, without any further ado, let’s take a look at the top five players who could win the award:
