Callum Hudson-Odoi (No. 20) Right wingback, England

Callum Hudson-Odoi needs to settle for wingback minutes or no minutes at all, it seems. His role at right wingback is more of a right midfielder because how high up the wingbacks often are. In fact, SofaScore sees Marcos Alonso as a midfielder now. Hudson-Odoi’s dribbling and ability to stretch the pitch horizontally is going to be extremely valuable at certain points during the game.

N’Golo Kante (No. 7) Central midfielder, France

N’Golo Kante most likely starts this one as he will be needed to control the midfield. His last game against Tottenham Hotspur—albeit a friendly—saw the Frenchman make sure that the few times Spurs had the ball, they suddenly didn’t! Chelsea took four points from six from Spurs last season, and they look primed to take even more from the north London side this season. Kante is going to be a big part of that.

Jorginho (No. 5) Central midfielder, Italy

Jorginho has started all of Chelsea’s games this season except the Aston Villa game, where he had to step in at halftime anyway. While he ranks second in the team for tackles plus interceptions per game at 4.8, Jorginho also ranks second worst for being dribbled past per game (2.8), behind only Hakim Ziyech. This highlights perfectly Jorginho’s strengths and weaknesses. He reads the game well but he’s not very quick. His distribution this season has been very good so far.

Marcos Alonso (No. 3) Left wingback, Spain

Marcos Alonso is likely to start again, with Ben Chilwell getting substitute minutes earlier in the week. He was not great against Villa and he was OK at best against Zenit, but he has played well up until recently and Chilwell is probably not ready to be thrown into an incredibly intense London derby against Nuno’s men.
