2. The faltering midfield

Right now one of the biggest problems in the Chelsea team is their underperforming midfield. While the defensive half of the midfield is doing their job, the attacking half needs to be a bit more creative. Currently, the three players playing the attacking side of the field is Romelu Lukaku, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount. While Lukaku is doing his job of scoring the goals, Mount has not been his sharpest since his return from the Euros and Havertz is also yet to show his best form. The two attacking midfielders are not creating enough chances, and it showed in the match against Villa where the statistically weaker side had more shots than the Blues.

This just shows the amount of pressure the Blues’ defense has to take every match. The attack needs a bit more shape and structure to it and Mount really needs to improve his game. The last good game that he had was against Arsenal. Maybe Tuchel should try some new tactics such as bringing in Werner to play as a secondary striker. Ziyech played in the Carabao cup recently and thus he will most probably not start in the upcoming match against City. Pulisic is also injured which only leaves Werner as their alternate option to Mount.

Werner had a good game in the Carabao cup and he should have scored more than once. However, it seems like his shooting will need some more improvement before he can start scoring regularly again. As for now, the Blues will need to take hold of the game in the midfield and really create something for the big man up top. Havertz needs to pick up his tempo a little bit, and Mount needs to pass the ball around more. They are not playing badly however if the club wants to be champions, you must play in a superior fashion in each game.
