Chelsea vs Man City preview: How to watch on TV and live stream
Chelsea team news
The Blues’ injury concerns are now growing after a tough midweek clash in the Carabao Cup. Christian Pulisic remains sidelined with a knock he picked up on international duty, although his rehab is progressing positively. Meanwhile, one of the side’s most important players, Mason Mount, will miss out due to an injury he sustained in the Aston Villa game. This means Tuchel’s options on the wings are few and far between now. Chelsea can field any two of Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner or Hakim Ziyech, if it decides to keep the 3-4-3 shape. Nevertheless, Mount’s intensity and energy will be missed in this important early season clash.
On a positive note, two Blues are fully healthy again and available for selection. N’Golo Kante is the first. He has battled a nagging injury throughout the last few weeks, but after coming on against Spurs and playing 45 minutes versus Villa, he looks ready to be thrown back into the thick of things. Edouard Mendy is also available for selection. The Senegalese keeper missed the two aforementioned matches with an injury; he will rejoin the starting XI on Saturday. Kepa Arrizabalaga filled in nicely in his absence, keeping a clean sheet at Spurs and winning the penalty shootout for the home side on Wednesday. Mendy was always going to get the nod though.
Manchester City team news
Guardiola was a lot less telling than his managerial counterpart as it relates to his team news. Man City has struggled with injuries as of late, especially across the back line. A number of Citizens defenders missed out against Southampton in the Premier League last weekend, which led to Guardiola essentially featuring a youth defense in the midweek win over Wycombe. That back line featured names like Conrad Jonathan Egan-Riley, Finley Burns, Luke Mbete-Tabu and Joshua Darius Kamani Wilson-Esbrand. You’d be forgiven for knowing none of these lads. That is not even close to the defense that will be tasked with keeping Romelu Lukaku at bay on Saturday though.
Nevertheless, Man City could still be without some big names. Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all questionable to suit up at the back. Rodrigo and Ilkay Gundogan could also miss out in the middle of the park.
