Prediction

There is seriously no telling how this one will play out. When these two juggernauts come together, the result is always a mixed bag. There have been routs on both sides over the years, as well as contests that were too close to call. This fixture sees both sides at the height of their powers though, which is bound to be an exciting spectacle for viewers.

The one thing Man City does especially well is hold onto the ball and press. The Citizens are one of the only sides on Earth capable of matching the Blues’ energy in transition and going toe-to-toe with them overall. Aston Villa gave Chelsea some trouble in their two games over the last few weeks by pressing the Blues and making it uncomfortable for them to build-up play through the middle as they normally would. Tuchel’s sides—despite getting the results—haven’t played especially well lately. Chelsea has looked sluggish in many first halves this season before halftime adjustments whip the side into shape. This cannot happen against Man City; Guardiola’s lethal attack will chew the Blues up and spit them out as quickly as possible if this is the case.

Tuchel has proven over his tenure in SW6 that his side is always ready to play under the brightest lights, the same will go for this early afternoon scrap. Chelsea absorbs the Citizens’ pressure, but manages to create enough chances to get Lukaku and Werner on the scoresheet.

Score prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City
