Timo Werner (Striker): 2/10

Not much action for the German international as Chelsea’s attack stayed in the locker room. Timo Werner made some good runs on the right side; however, he didn’t have any support. Werner only took two shots the entire match and virtually created no opportunities for his teammates. But again, he lacked the help and connection with Lukaku.

Romelu Lukaku (Striker): 1/10

It was expected that the Belgian forward would not have many chances and even many touches during this match. However, whenever Lukaku did, he hardly made anything of them. He was kept extremely quiet the entire match by the Man City defense. Although Lukaku tried to make things happen on few occasions, the Chelsea striker had nothing to offer on the day.

Thiago Silva (Centerback): 7/10

After the James injury, Thiago Silva stepped up to the plate as he always does. His substitution was for the better as he provided experience in the defense, as well as very good long-range passes. Silva even saved Chelsea with a goal line clearance to keep the Blues in the match. While everyone was focused on the player moving around, Silva recognized the danger and positioned himself to rescue his side—par for the course.

Kai Havertz (Left winger): 2/10

On paper, Kai Havertz looked to be the answer to Chelsea’s problems against Man City. There was no support from the midfield while transitioning from defense to offence. Nevertheless, he provided no solutions and no creativity when coming on. Like Werner, Havertz did not get much of a chance to either create or score. Nevertheless, he was brought on to do just that for the forwards and failed.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Central midfielder): 6/10

A nice surprise from Tuchel to bring on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. After his last performance though, it was well deserved. Loftus-Cheek gave Chelsea the balance and the power it needed in the midfield. The academy graduate dominated the midfield and gave the Blues the capacity to attack from all sides. His inter-play, retention of the ball and forward-thinking were fantastic. The only downside was how little he played. However, he surely earned a starting spot next match.

Thomas Tuchel (Manager): 3/10

The game plan was clear: defend and hope for a successful counterattack. However, against a team like Man City, this was a high-risk tactic. Unfortunately, it all went down the drain the moment the Citizens scored. Tuchel made the right substitutions for the most part, but even then, he took a gamble from the start. Surely a lesson for Tuchel that he won’t take lightly.
