3. Romelu Lukaku will strike again

The last few matches for the former Inter Milan striker have not been great. Lukaku is the kind of player who wants to score in each and every match as it builds his confidence. The Belgian wants to lead the team and possesses the ability, hence why the Blues broke their club transfer record to bring him back. However, in the past few games, he has not been able to find the back of the net. Lukaku has now gone four matches without scoring, although he did only play 14 minutes in the League Cup match against Aston Villa.

Lukaku will score again. Some fans are already expressing concern over his “drought,” but he will score sooner than later. The Blues’ No. 9 will likely be in the chase for the Premier League Golden Boot. However, another issue that some supporters and critics have pointed out is that Lukaku fails to score against the big teams. He failed to score against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and now Juventus. While that may seem bad when it is isolated away from his other stats, the fact of the matter is that Chelsea did not play very well in those matches as a side. Yes, the Blues ended up winning 3-0 against Spurs, but they only showed up in the second half.

In the match against City, Lukaku was completely isolated and he was not getting any service. Even in Wednesday’s match, he was not getting proper deliveries or through balls from the wingbacks or the midfield. It has been a frustrating few weeks for him as he wants to be more involved in the games. Another thing that has hurt Lukaku’s performance a bit is the injuries to Mason Mount and Reece James. The three had built a good chemistry amongst themselves and now that the two English youngsters are out, there is a bit of a drop in service. Nevertheless, there is no reason for anybody to worry about the experienced striker, he will be just fine.
