Cesar Azpilicueta (Right wingback): 6/10

Seeing that most of the game was played from the left flank in the first half, Cesar Azpilicueta didn’t have much to do in the opening 45 minutes. In the second half, the Spaniard was not on for long after being substituted in the 61′ for Callum Hudson-Odoi. Even if Azpilicueta didn’t contribute much in the attacking half, he did stop the limited opposing attacks that came his way.

Mateo Kovacic (Central midfielder): 7/10

One of the better players in the Chelsea squad was Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian international was in the heart of the midfield helping the team try to play a smooth brand of football. Despite all of his efforts, the team looked dull throughout the game. Even in his better performances, Kovacic was responsible for losing the ball in dangerous positions twice, which almost led to the Italian side taking a lead earlier than it eventually did.

Jorginho (Central midfielder): 6/10

For me personally, I have never quite understood what Jorginho brings to the table for a team like Chelsea. Physically, he is not built and pace was something that the Italian international never had. When put under pressure, Jorginho is very error-prone. Even in Wednesday’s game, the midfielder was responsible for losing possession and was eventually substituted in the 61′ for Ruben Loftus Cheek.

Marcos Alonso (Left wingback): 5.5/10

One of the most disappointing players today on the pitch was Marcos Alonso. When it comes to the attacking part of being a wingback, Alonso is one of the best in the world, but when it comes to defending, the Spanish international can be a big liability. The lack of defensive awareness is his biggest weakness.

Ben Chilwell (Left Wingback): 6.5/10

I wouldn’t go too deep in analyzing Ben Chilwell. Keep in mind that he is still getting some minutes under his belt. One thing is for sure and that is that the England international looked much better than his previous outings. He was on his toes when it came to both the attacking and defending aspect of the game, especially as compared to Alonso.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Central midfielder): 7/10

Another bright spark off the Chelsea bench was Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Just like against Manchester City, the England international showed that he is capable of playing the role of Jorginho while having the advantage of his physicality and speed, which the Italian midfielder lacks the most.

Ross Barkley (Central Midfielder): 5.5/10

Ross Barkley didn’t catch the viewers’ eye doing anything noteworthy from his introduction in the 75′ onwards.
