1. Mateo Kovacic

One of the most underrated and underappreciated players at Chelsea currently is Kovacic. This is because he plays in the middle of the field and his only job is to build up play and help out in the defense if the Blues are facing too much pressure. Players in such a central position do not often get the credit they deserve as they are not in front of the goal scoring or near the back of the field making the flashy blocks or tackles. He is right in the middle of the field, playing out the important passes to the attackers, who can then move onwards to create the attack.

Kovacic, however, has been more involved in the games recently and has made himself one of the most important players in the first team. His vision has been useful for the attackers many times and he managed to get two assists, along with a goal in the month of September. He would have gotten even more assists had it not been for a bit of poor finishing from Lukakau in the match against the Italians in the Champions League. Kovacic was also one of the more involved players against Man City and had a big chance to equalize, only for Ruben Diaz to stop the midfielder in the nick of time. His pass to Lukaku for the first goal against Villa was exquisite and he was also providing some serious passes with proper intent. Unfortunately, those passes could not be converted into goals.

The Croatian was arguably one of the best players for the London side and his contributions to the team are finally being noticed. He might not be the most dynamic player, but his ball awareness and game-sense have made him almost irreplaceable. Kovacic will surely keep his place for the upcoming matches and provide some more brilliant passes to attackers.
