1. Ben Chilwell

Yes, Chilwell scored the goal against Southampton which guaranteed a win for the home side. However, he has been less than satisfactory this season. His mental strength has deteriorated since he was called up by Gareth Southgate but not given a single minute of action during the Euros. This affected his physical health, as well, and he was not able to perform his best in the training sessions. The manager was sympathetic about his situation and told the media that the situation with Chilwell was complicated.

Tuchel knew that it would take him some time to get back into his best form and thus, he was left on the bench for the first few matches of the season. Along with that, Alonso was also performing on a superior level, so Tuchel had to play him and stay true to his philosophy. Chilwell was slowly introduced by Tuchel via substitutions, and he was given a full game in the EFL Cup against Aston Villa. His performance was not up to par and Tuchel was visibly upset with his performance.

However, in the contest against Manchester City, the Spaniard was not in his best form. Alonso failed to perform against Juventus, as well, and Chilwell was brought in during that match. It was during this clash that Tuchel decided to give the English player a second chance. Thus, the 24-year-old started in the match against Saints. He had a decent game, although he did give away a penalty. It is going to be a tough road ahead for Chilwell. He needs to keep performing on a top-level, otherwise Alonso reclaim his place in the starting XI. As for now, he was an underperformer, but he has improved his level enough to start playing regularly again.
