3. Jorginho deserves it as the leader of the pack

One of the reasons why accomplished managers such as Roberto Mancini and Thomas Tuchel love to play Jorginho and has always praised him is due to his mental strength and ability to lead the team. Although he is not the captain for either his club or his country, he is the vice-captain of Chelsea and the untold vice-captain for Italy as well. He controls the Blues’ midfield alongside Kante and Kovacic and always has a hold of the game. He plays simple and basic football which allows him to be more agile and release the ball quickly for a counter-attack. Jorginho is truly a matured and experienced player who knows that fancy tricks don’t win games and thus he is considered one of the best leaders.

In the beginning, he was deemed to be Sarri’s pet and the only reason for him being in the team was because of Sarri. He shifted Kante from the CDM role and that made some fans upset as well. The French player had to play in a more central role where he was required to help out the attack as well. At that time, Kante was not very well accustomed to that role and Jorginho was having a tough time maintaining the defensive end as well.

This all changed, however, and now Kante is one of the best central midfielders while Jorginho has mastered the art of holding the play and dispossessing the opponents. He is the conductor of the midfield and the game is his orchestra. Many fail to understand the amount of work that Jorginho does however, his uncanny ability to stop the opposition and build the play according to his own will is what is needed for his club and his country. Both the managers have backed him to win the award and it will be a testament to all attackers that forwards are not the only ones who win the game.
