1. He deserves it because he’s won it all

The biggest reason why Jorginho deserves the trophy over anyone else is because he won all the European trophies that there was to win last season and this season so far. He won the UEFA Champions League with the Blues, then he won the Euros with Italy and finally, he won the UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea as well. There is no player who has won more trophies than Jorginho last season and although he was not performing from the beginning of the season, last season, he really picked up the tempo once Tuchel came in and he was instrumental in both the Champions League victory and the Euros victory.

The player who was played as the main central defensive midfielder over Kante did extremely well to control the game and this allowed Kante to help the attackers as well. Jorginho was a hurdle for all the opposition midfielders as the Italian has gotten a lot better at tackling and anticipating passes. He has learnt a lot from Kante and now he can control the game using his knowledge. He can outsmart players and his creative side have really been a perk to his defensive performances.

In the Euros as well, Jorginho played on another level. He was always in the squad, he was the leader of the midfield and he was always ready to run and help out his team. In the Euros, he recovered the ball the most number of times, 46 times, and he also had one of the highest passing accuracies at 93 per cent. He completed the second-highest number of passes, 497 and was named the UEFA Player of the Year. He was one of the most influential players in both those victories and his contribution to the team cannot be justified via just goals and assists. He is a complete team player and his team is winning because of him. That is why he deserves the Ballon d’Or.
