Chelsea travels down the road to take on newly promoted west London foe Brentford for the first time in the league since the 1940s. The Bees are off to a buzzing start to their first top flight campaign in over 70 years as they currently sit seventh in the table. However, their noisy neighbors are top at the moment. Thomas Tuchel’s side has enjoyed a lot of early success this year, despite its tough schedule. The Blues travel to Brentford on the other side of the international break facing a tough team. Furthermore, they have a plethora of injuries and Anthony Taylor is taking charge of the contest—an unfortunate perfect storm. They should still possess enough firepower to jog back home with three points, but it’s not going to be easy.

Here is how The Pride of London team sees the contest playing out:

Anthony Gatt: 0-2 Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku is fit, which is a huge relief due to the defense being depleted with both Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva out. Brentford is a tough team and it has picked up some great results already. The Bees will look to the same on Saturday. Therefore, if the Blues want to get all three points and remain top of the table, they must not take their opponents lightly. It needs to be a team effort, especially with absences in defense. A 2-0 win will kickstart a pretty “easy” run of games that lies ahead.

Leighton September: 1-3 Chelsea

A couple of defensive worries for the Blues (Rudiger and Silva out) but the firepower up front will be too much for the Brentford team. A fit and firing Lukaku will bully that Bees’ defence and the Blues’ run at the top will continue for at least another week.

Daniel Oyebamiji: 0-2 Chelsea

Lukaku being back is a huge boost to the team. Brentford’s offensive style should suit him nicely. No Rudiger and Silva, which is a first for a while, but it means Trevoh Chalobah gets another game under his belt. We could also potentially see Callum Hudson-Odoi start in an attacking position for two games in a row.

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 2-2 Draw

It just feels like one of those games. The Blues are coming off an international break and they rarely do well in fixtures following international breaks. Brentford is a very well-organized side and it presses very effectively. The Bees also press backlines very well, which is difficult to do. Chelsea has not been as defensively solid as it was last season, giving up quality chances way too regularly. This could be a very difficult one for the Blues indeed.

Olly Smith: 1-2 Chelsea

The Premier League new boys will make it tough for the Blues. What they lack in international stars, they make up for in relentless running, effort and team discipline. Back Lukaku to open the scoring before Kai Havertz comes off the bench to score the winner.

Mike Malley: 0-2 Chelsea

I do not really believe in the Anthony Taylor curse, so I think Chelsea will ultimately come out on top in this matchup. However, newly-promoted Brentford has proven to be an annoying thorn in the side of some of the Premier League’s top teams—including Arsenal and Liverpool. A potential lack of cohesion could pose problems for the Blues, many of whom have been apart for the past few weeks during the international break. In the end, though, talent should prevail. The Timo Werner remontada starts on Saturday.

Kevin Peacock: 0-2 Chelsea

Of course, Anthony Taylor won’t stitch us up again . . . will he? Chelsea will have enough troubles overcoming a Brentford side intent on a local upset without worrying about the bald one. Ultimately though, the Blues’ guile and skill overcome their near neighbours. Goals from Lukaku and Cesar Azpilicueta seal the deal.

Nate Hofmann: 1-1 Draw

Brentford is the new Leeds. The Bees are exciting, they’re different, and they have absolute confidence in what they do. The Blues still don’t have that self-certainty and the raft of players just returning from international duty won’t help. It’ll be a frustrating day for Chelsea and another surprising point claimed by the Bees.

Barrett Rouen: 0-1 Chelsea

Traditionally, I think that Chelsea struggles after international breaks and Brentford is one of the most interesting teams of the season. That said, I don’t predict anything other than Chelsea wins because I just don’t do that—1-0 us.

Varun Dani: 0-2 Chelsea

This will be a very, very difficult game for the Blues. Brentford is a well-drilled outfit who has taken on the role of being this year’s feel-good underdog. On the heels of an international break that spread Chelsea’s regulars all across Europe and stretched the squad thin based on travel, injury and fitness, this will be one the trickiest games of the season for Tuchel. Should he continue to field the in-form trio of Werner, Ruben  Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah though, the Blues will be equipped to ride the storm out.

Tan Yi Hao: 1-0 Brentford

Games after international breaks can often be tough affairs as the team tries to rediscover its groove having been away for a prolong period of time. Against an in-form Brentford side with much more time to prepare for this match, the Blues have to come out swinging or risk dropping points, much like Liverpool and Arsenal already have this season.

Hugo Amaya: 1-3 Chelsea

An entertaining affair, even with the goal difference. Chelsea will have a slow start, which will allow Brentford to get the first goal. The Blues will level the score shortly after and go on to win the game by two goals. However, the game will be even and end-to-end. Goals by Lukaku, Werner and Mount.

Abhishek Pancholi: 0-3 Chelsea

Despite the best efforts of one Anthony Taylor to stitch them up, the Blues will have the measure of anything Brentford throws at them.

Akshat Mehrish: 2-3 Chelsea

Brentford is good and not by mistake. It by no means will be a walk in the park for Chelsea, who I feel will edge the overall encounter by the narrowest of margins.

Gabe Henderson: 0-1 Chelsea

This will be a tough contest for the Blues. Brentford is a genuinely good football team, but Chelsea’s quality will ultimately see it break through with a late winner
