2. Mason Mount was world class

This had to have been one of the best games for Mount in his whole career. This is the young midfielder’s first hat-trick in a Chelsea shirt and his first hat-trick overall since his match for Derby Country against Bolton Wanderers in 2019. Although two of his goals were quite simple, his first goal was a classic Mount strike from outside the box into the bottom corner of the net. He was majestic on the day and showed everyone why he was named the Blues’ Player of the Season last year. His final two goals were not very important as the game was over a long time beforehand, but who does not want a hat-trick? Mount had the hunger to go and get the two goals, he deserved them fully.

Mount came under heavy fire from certain Chelsea fans and critics, as they claimed that the Ballon d’Or nominated player was not doing enough for the Blues. While this was true to a certain extent, they should have also taken into consideration that Mount had been busy during the summer as he played all of the games for England at Euro 2020. Mount is just 22 and could have gotten burnt out by the sheer number of games he was playing, he deserves a bit of slack. Tuchel also understood this problem and gave Mount a few games off to refresh.

The midfielder came back with a new vengeance and a determination to prove himself. His three goals on Saturday not only helped Chelsea stay at the summit of the table, but also proved all the doubters wrong. Mount was not just a scorer today, he also provided a lot of great passes and through balls to his teammates. His pass to Reece James allowed the wingback to get on the scoresheet, as well. James and Mount’s connection seem as strong as ever and we hope that they can continue giving us performances of this level.
