2. Andreas Christensen 25

Once destined to be nothing but a benched star, Andreas Christensen has now become one of Chelsea’s most successful academy graduates. The Danish superstar has been phenomenal under the guidance of Tuchel and the glimpse of magic that we used to see from him in the previous seasons, has become a staple since the German boss joined the club. Ever since Christensen made his debut for Chelsea in 2014, people expected big things from him. His loan moves, injuries and patience only made him a stronger and more resilient player and now he is a Champions League winner and regular starter for the Blues.

Christensen went through a lot of ups and downs before cementing his name as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League. He made mistakes, recovered from mistakes, was dropped to the bench several times however, he always knew that Chelsea was his club. Even when Frank Lampard and Mauricio Sarri chose others in front of him, he knew that he would one day play for his boyhood club. That chance was finally given to him by Tuchel and the German boss could not be happier with his progress. However, the 25-year-old is running out of a contract and he will become a free agent next season.

According to reports, the club and the player were on good terms and a new contract with new pay wages had also been verbally agreed upon however, there have been no talks between the player and the club since August. This is quite worrying since the club was apparently willing to give a four-year contract extension to the centerback however, now all talks seem to have been stalled. Christensen is an important part of our defense and he will be the future of the Chelsea defense once Thiago Silva retires. The club should definitely look into his contract, as soon as possible since he will be able to talk to new clubs from next year onwards.
