Chelsea at Newcastle: Three things to look for in lopsided contest
2. Another Mason Mount special
Right now, the player on every Chelsea fan’s mind is Mount. The academy graduate and Blues’ Player of the Season for 2020/21 has finally come back to life after a slow start. He gave one of his best performances of his young career against Norwich last week. Mount scored his first goal of the season in the 8′ and then went on to score a hat-trick. Suffice it to say, he will probably have a big role in the upcoming match. Mount was rested in the contest against Saints, although he did come on as a substitute. The 22-year-old midfielder has been one of Chelsea’s finest academy products and he always plays a big part in Tuchel’s team.
He was a bit slow to get started this season due to over-exhaustion. On top of that, Chelsea fans and critics put a lot of pressure on this young man’s shoulders, as well. He was considered the best player of last season, but fans must understand that the player is still young and has not entered his prime years yet. Predictably, there will be dry periods where he will struggle a bit, but now it seems like he is finally finding his feet again. Not only did he score three goals in his last game, but he also assisted Reece James’ goal.
Mount has a lot of passion and determination, even though his gameplay might seem a bit too straightforward at times, he can also be very dynamic in his approach. Playing sly through balls and getting past tough defenders is all too easy for him; his first touch is also sublime. Apart from that, he has practised his long shots a lot and has the ability to easily score from outside the box. Mount might be too much for the Newcastle defenders to handle. Further, Mount just might have to be the hero for Chelsea again with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner out again.
