Chelsea at Newcastle score predictions: Staying on top
It’s another David versus Goliath match-up on Saturday as Chelsea travels up to Newcastle. The clash Tyneside will pit the Premier League leader against another side struggling as it faces the grim prospect of relegation. Thomas Tuchel will be without a few key players in Mateo Kovacic, Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner, but the Blues will still be favored heavily in the contest after their recent success. The takeover at Newcastle has inspired fans. Unfortunately for them, the new owners cannot begin making purchases for another two months. The Toons are stuck with the mediocre on-field product they’ve been putting out for years until then, so it’s hard not to favor the visitors in this contest.
Here is how The Pride of London team sees the contest playing out:
Gabe Henderson: 0-2 Chelsea
This has been the scoreline between these clubs over their last two meetings. Everyone else seemingly predicted a 0-3 scoreline, so I wanted to change things up a bit. It’ll be a comfortable victory for the Blues, even though they’re missing some key players.
Subhrajit Chowdhury: 0-3 Chelsea
This should a pretty one-sided game in the Blues’ favour. However, Tuchel might play a rotated side, which makes me think that the scoreline will be nowhere near the Norwich scoreline. Apart from that, we will also be missing a host of players. Still, it will be a comfortable win for us.
Leighton September: 0-3 Chelsea
A battle of the billionaire club owners: Saudi Arabia versus Russia. This match will be a very one-sided game for the Blues as they will control the ball and dominate possession. The Geordie faithful will see their side suffer another defeat at home. Kai Havertz at the double.
Anthony Gatt: 0-3 Chelsea
Newcastle, like Norwich, is on a horrid run of form having not won a single game this season so far. Despite the injuries the team has at this current moment, I see no reason why the Blues shouldn’t win this game comfortably.
Barrett Rouen: 0-1 Chelsea
Chelsea, like its fans, often has a way of going into matches against Newcastle overconfident and forgetting that the Toon are our most traditional bogey team. Though the days of Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba are gone, Newcastle is a team that defends well in a low block and the Toons are on a new manager bounce at the moment—both of these are things Chelsea struggles against. The Blues are also missing strikers Lukaku and Werner for this moment. Though that puts Havertz squarely in his frustratingly best position and that works out for Chelsea, I would expect a tight one. The Blues come out on top, likely through Ben Chilwell or Havertz.
Akshat Mehrish: 1-2 Chelsea
It’s not as straightforward as it looks on paper given the background. The Magpies will be quick out of the blocks, backed by the support of the entire home crowd—this being the first game Newcastle is playing at home since the departure of Steve Bruce—and could cause Chelsea some early problems. If the Blues see out the early onslaught, they should be able to take the game.
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 0-3 Chelsea
Chelsea is really good. Newcastle is really bad. When these things combine, it could be a really good day for the Blues. Newcastle’s new owners will probably have to sit through watching their team get pumped. Again. Newcastle has sort of been a bogey team for the Blues in relatively recent times, so Chelsea cannot afford to be overconfident. It’s the Premier League after all.
Kevin Peacock: 1-3 Chelsea
Newcastle is in the midst of seismic changes at the moment and whilst there is a euphoria around the club, because of that, the Blues will add a touch of reality to proceedings. Tuchel’s side is unlikely to hit seven goals as it did last weekend, but at least a couple of goals should be no problem. The law of averages says that Chelsea has to concede more goals than it does in the Premier League, so for that alone, I’ll give the Toonsters a goal.
Olly Smith: 0-4 Chelsea
This fixture has caused the Blues problems in the past and the added dimension that these two clubs could be vying over a certain Belgian winger playing Spain makes it all the more juicy. Not this time, however. Chilwell will continue to sparkle, two assists for Mount and a goal for Havertz.
Tan Yi Hao: 0-2 Chelsea
St. James’ Park has not been a happy hunting ground for the Blues in recent years, but the bottom line is that, despite all the excitement over the completion of Newcastle’s takeover, the Magpies remain statistically one of the worst teams in the league. They are 19th for a good reason and Chelsea will win this one comfortably, 2-0.
