2. A little bit of Didier Drogba

Are you guilty of searching for old clips of Didier Drogba on YouTube and watching them for hours? Don’t worry, you certainly aren’t alone. Drogba is the best striker Chelsea has ever had and it’s not particularly close either. He seemed to score goals from absolutely nothing and more importantly, he scored when it mattered the most.

Apart from the obvious similar height and a strong frame, a lot of similarities can be drawn between the Blues’ legend and Belotti. For starters, just like Drogba, Belotti is capable of scoring in big games. His only goal this season has come against Atalanta, a team that has built quite a name for itself over the past few seasons in both Italy and Europe. Second, Belotti—much like Drogba—has the ability to score acrobatic goals or goals that might seem impossible to others. It is almost like he scores an acrobatic goal once every season, which is unique to his style of play. Chelsea has missed a player who can score “bangers” since Diego Costa left for Atletico Madrid a few seasons ago and Belotti might just be the player to bring spectacular goals like those back to Stamford Bridge.

Belotti has captained his side for the past few seasons and is a natural born leader. He leads by example and works his socks off every week to help the team achieve its objectives. Drogba was also a leader in the Blues’ dressing room. He motivated every player to be at their best, either inspiring them through his incredible performances or powerful, passionate words. Belotti would be another senior figure in the dressing room the team could rely on if it manages to get him. Belotti is also a very robust player and hardly misses games through injuries. Given what Drogba has done for the club, no one will ever truly “replace” him, but it would certainly be nice to see a player do things he did back in the day and occasionally remind fans of the King of Stamford Bridge.
