Chelsea loves Eden Hazard but does not need him
Eden Hazard was undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic and influential footballers the Premier League or Chelsea had ever seen. He was the magician of English football and strived with the Blues for seven seasons. From the bad days to the great days, Hazard stuck with the London side and the supporters stuck with him as well. However, one thing was always clear, if Chelsea did not manage to win the UEFA Champions League, it would eventually lose Hazard. The Belgian was a born winner with natural talents, and he would not settle for anything but the best. Apart from that, his love for Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid ultimately took him away from the Blues but now he may be coming back.
Yes, for the past month or so, rumors after rumors have been sparked all over the world saying that Chelsea is willing to pay up to 34 million pounds for Hazard’s return. While some fans are overjoyed by this news, some are skeptical about the impact that he will have on the team. We have to remember that he is no longer the same player who won the PFA Player of the Year back in 2014-15. The number of injuries has taken a toll on his body mentally and physically. He scored a total of five goals in his 53 appearances for Los Blancos and that really shows how much he has fallen.
Once a Ballon d’Or contender, now he is just another lost talent. Hazard is still a good player when he is fit and some of his performances for Belgium in the Euros showed that he can still control the game. However, Carlos Ancelotti does not want him at Madrid and he has made that abundantly clear. He will be sold in the upcoming transfer market and Chelsea and Newcastle United are the two teams who will be bidding for him.
However, the Blues must remember that before they start any serious bidding war with the Magpies, they still have players such as Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi who can play on the wing. They already have too many players and the club is saturated with talents at the moment. There is no need to bring in another player who is past his prime. While yes, there is a chance that Hazard could start playing brilliantly again, however, those chances are extremely low and he will most likely end up being injured in the PL.
Right now, the Chelsea team is looking very good and there is no need for any extra players. The Hazard deal might be more emotional and sentimental than pragmatic in nature, and that could be a problem later on. Instead of bringing in new players, the club should be looking to sell players who are no longer a necessity. Thus, although we would all love to see Hazard back in a Chelsea shirt, right now the club must look towards the future and not get influenced by the nostalgia of the past.
