The talk of the town in the Premier League this week is Spurs’ managerial position. After firing Nuno Espirito Santo just a few days ago, Tottenham made a big splash by replacing him with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. Conte is expected to transform his old club’s biggest rivals and turn them into title contenders for the first time in their history. That’ll take some time, so the Blues shouldn’t need to worry about Spurs for quite awhile.

Furthermore, Chelsea fans have spent the last few days talking about their former manager as if he’s the second coming of Benedict Arnold. There wasn’t this much animosity toward Jose Mourinho when he was appointed in north London. The former Blues’ gaffer is being described as “a Chelsea man” amongst supporters online—whatever that means. The fact of the matter is he was fired from his post in west London, he’s now free to go wherever he wants. Chelsea fans shouldn’t be bothered or worried in the slightest by Conte being named Tottenham manager for a few different reasons.

Chelsea fans shouldn’t worry about Antonio Conte managing Tottenham

Firstly, Conte was fired from Chelsea. His passion for the club and its supporters has always been evident, but that does not take precedent over his job. Conte is taking the necessary steps to further his career in management and albeit a misguided step, it’s still a massive move for him personally. The Italian obviously believes in the vision at the club, so who can fault him for making a decision he views as best for himself? He owes nothing to the Blues anymore. It’s a pipe dream many fans have that he returns in his blaze of glory many years from now; it’s not happening at this moment in time. Chelsea fans are irrationally delusional for being upset at Conte right now.

The positive in all of this is the fact Conte did not join Manchester United. The Red Devils had the Blues-print for success right in front of them the entire time. All they had to do was sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in favor of Conte and they’d be set up for a long period of success. The prospect of the successful Italian taking charge at Old Trafford was terrifying to the Premier League. Alas, the Glaziers were not smart enough to make this decision. United is now stuck with Solskjaer for the near future with no instant upgrade at manager in sight. United is stuck in an endless cycle of mediocrity and Tottenham has a lot of different holes that need patching before it competes for any major titles. This leaves Chelsea in a great place to dominate the league for years to come.

The Blues are currently trending upward with Liverpool and Manchester City on the descent. Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are facing uncertain futures—not due to results, but rather personal decisions—with their current clubs. Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel is sitting in front of reporters before Champions League matches speaking his mind about how he believes Chelsea is the perfect club for his ambitions. How does all of this relate to Conte? The one thing the 52-year-old knows how to do is win and that’s the most valuable trait a Blues manager can possess. Memories of the good ‘ole days under Conte had supporters dreaming of what he could do with the team Frank Lampard helped construct. However, there’s no need for him in SW6 right now.

Chelsea has arguably a better manager at the helm in Tuchel, who is undoubtedly easier to work with than Conte. Tuchel has built the Blues into a juggernaut that would take other clubs years to construct. It’ll be quite some time before Conte’s Tottenham ever reaches the height Chelsea is at right now. Of course, this is assuming Conte stays in charge in north London for that long. Either way, Blues supporters should just kick their feet up and appreciate the German manager currently sporting the shirt—he’s the only Chelsea man that matters at this moment in time. It’ll sting a bit to see the beloved former manager celebrating goals on the Tottenham touchline, but it’s even more sweet watching Tuchel lift trophy after trophy while wearing the Blues’ badge.
