Hakim Ziyech (No. 22) Right winger, Morocco

Hakim Ziyech is a curious case at Chelsea. The Moroccan often seems to be on the brink of something great when external factors derail his momentum. He was having a solid preseason when an freak shoulder injury sidelined him for a few games. It is unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to recover fully and his injury seems to have impacted him until recently. Another source of concern has been consistency. Ziyech has been a frustrating player to watch at times as he keeps repeating the same things again and again. However, what the Moroccan Wizard does have is the ability to change a game in a second with a magical delivery into the box. Chelsea will need to hope that Ziyech finds his form and starts doing things before it’s too late.

Kai Havertz (No. 29) Centre forward, Germany

Kai Havertz has played in the centre forward role for the past few games due to injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. The German hasn’t been able to finish chances and he owes at least a couple of goals to his fellow forwards. Against Malmo, Havertz got two to three chances where he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper. There was a slight hesitancy to shoot on all occasions and he ended up overworking the ball. What Havertz needs to do is work on his finishing skills and his decision making in the final third. Chelsea looks a better side with a fluid forward like Havertz on the pitch and he can only continue to improve from here.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (No. 20) Left winger, England

Callum Hudson-Odoi has benefitted from the injuries to Lukaku and Werner. He has been playing in his favoured position as the left winger and it is fair to say that he has been performing well. His ability to take on a defender seems unique as most of Chelsea’s wingers lack that direct approach. The 20-year-old has been in the news as he opted to stay at Cobham and rejected a call-up from England U21s. It seems like he intends to become a regular in the Chelsea AND England starting line-ups, and with consistency, he might just do that.

dark. Next. Chelsea's extension of Chalobah is a much bigger deal than it seems
