Defending champions Chelsea welcomed Juventus for an important group decider game in the Champions League group stage at Stamford Bridge and progressed to the knockout stage in fashion after beating the Italian side 4-0 in a one-sided encounter. Thomas Tuchel’s side took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute after Trevoh Chalobah scored from close range to put the host in front.

Chelsea then doubled their lead 10 minutes after the second half when Man of the Match performer Reece James lashed a thunderous drive into the bottom corner. Three minutes later Ruben Loftus Cheek set up Callum Hudson Odoi to score the third goal of the game and effectively secured the points. In the dying minutes of the game, Timo Werner made it four as he finished Hakim Ziyech’s cross from close range.

Here’s how each Chelsea player fared against Juventus:

Edouard Mendy (Goalkeeper): 7/10

Edouard Mendy would not have expected this performance from his opponents as the Senegalese international saved his first shot in the final 10 minutes of the game. Mendy had to make an acrobatic save from Weston McKennie’s volley shot from the edge of the box. That was all the work Mendy had to do as Juventus came with the plan to park the bus, a plan which backfired.

Trevoh Chalobah (Centerback): 8.5/10

Trevoh Chalobah continues his impressive debut season as he scored his first Champions League goal for the club and opened the scoring in the match. Chalobah converted Hakim Ziyech’s corner which bounced off Rudiger and fell onto his legs. Picked to play in another important game, Chalobah was unfazed with anything Juventus put in front of him attacking-wise and dealt with everything easily.

Thiago Silva (Centerback): 8/10

In a must-win game for the Blues, the Brazilian veteran after being played against Leicester City during the weekend was picked again in the team and made a spectacular goal-line clearance to deny former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata to equalize for Juventus. Throughout the game, Silva was a constant threat from the corner and blocked a couple of shots from Juventus attackers. Rock-solid as always.

Antonio Rudiger (Centerback): 8/10

The German international again had a good game but got caught a few times out of his position which almost let in Juventus attackers. But apart from this early blip, Rudiger was more involved in carrying the ball forward, dribbling 30,40, or 50 yards up the field before finding a teammate in the final third.
