According to reports from Italian source Calciomercato, Thomas Tuchel has shown an interest in Juventus’ Federico Chiesa. The winger thrived during Euro 2020 and reports state the German gaffer is willing to go all in to land the Old Lady‘s star. Chiesa was part of the Italy team that won Euro 2020 and he impressed when he was given his chance to shine for Gli Azzurri, netting two goals in the tournament. Despite this, it was his pace and trickery that was to be admired.

The winger hasn’t really been able to emulate his form from the summer this season though. In fact, the 24-year-old has only netted three goals and picked up three assists for Juventus in all competitions, but that isn’t to say that the talent isn’t there. The reported £84 million could be a lot to pay for a player who isn’t currently in the best form, but still being young, there is plenty of room for him to grow and even become more valuable than that over the next five years or so.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly willing to go all in to secure the signature of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa

One of the biggest questions is how would Chiesa fit into the side? Tuchel is armed with a lot of options in the forward positions with Kai Havertz, Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount and Timo Werner, just to name a few, having starred in the team so far this term. Could it possibly indicate the end of time at Stamford Bridge for Christian Pulisic or Hakim Ziyech. After all, there are rumours of both players being linked with moves away from the club, whether that be on loan or as permanent deals, in the near future.

The price tag of Chiesa could potentially put pressure on Tuchel to play the Italian from the off if he was to join. The Italian’s arrival could potentially disrupt the free-flowing attack the Blues currently have going on right now with players bang in form. It doesn’t look like a viable option right now for Chelsea to bring in the forward, both financially and with how Tuchel has set the team up with little-to-no room for any more attackers. Should the Blues invest the money in Chiesa, it may leave them a little short of funds to improve other areas that need to be addressed, such as left wingback. Recent reports are that Ben Chilwell could be out for an extended period of time, which would leave Marcos Alonso as the only other experienced option in that position.

The fee is a hefty one for a player who hasn’t played Premier League football before and there have been cases before where it just doesn’t work out or it takes time for players to settle in. This is especially true for Chelsea. The Blues’ competitor, Manchester United, knows about this all too well as Jadon Sancho has only just begun to settle into life in the English top flight following his big-money move in the summer from Dortmund. Like Sancho at United, this sort of investment would definitely be one that the Blues look toward the future with. But they should also expect a near enough immediate impact from the Italian, who would be joining a side that is already beaming with confidence, sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League.

Of course, this is all assuming Juventus would accept any bid for its budding star. That prospect in and of itself is a long shot as Massimiliano Allegri seems to be in love with the youngster.
