Chelsea at Brentford score predictions: Depleted sides battle
Chelsea takes on Brentford on Wednesday in the second installment of a newly formed West London Derby. This time, the two sides will meet with a place in the Carabao Cup semifinals on the line. There was a lot of speculation surrounding this game and whether or not it’d go ahead, but after some discussions from the FA and both sides, it’s been given the green light. Both Thomas Tuchel and Thomas Frank face some selection headaches as the sides are missing a plethora of players due to COVID-19 and injuries.
Last time out, the Bees gave their visitors all that they could handle in a 1-0 affair. All signs point to this one being a lot more wide open given the issues that could exist in personnel on either side. Chelsea is likely going to field a few youngsters, so there is a lot of uncertainty around its performance. The Blues will go for broke regardless as they look to inch closer to adding to their trophy case in this potentially magical season.
Here is how The Pride of London team sees the contest playing out:
Anthony Gatt: 0-0 Draw (BRE 4-5 CHE on pens.)
Kepa Arrizabalaga sends the Blues into the semifinals of the Carabao Cup.
Barrett Rouen: 0-2 Chelsea
We play a very cautious and ultimately victorious game. The youth players who play make the case for our not buying anyone to replace Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger when they leave and everything goes great.
Olly Smith: 0-1 Chelsea
Arrizabalaga will be hung out to dry on a number of occasions, but the Spaniard will stand tall. A late winner from none other than our Superhero Mason Mount will make up for a gloriously spurned chance by Christian Pulisic. The Blues are through—just.
Leighton September: 3-4 Chelsea
No matter the XI, it’s in our DNA to win against whatever situation or circumstance. A cup game where anything can happen, this has the makings to be a game of goals aplenty.
Tan Yi Hao: 1-1 Draw (CHE wins on pens.)
This will be a tight one, and if the game against Wolves is anything to go by, Chelsea will be returning to a “defense first” approach to see out a 1-0 win. But with the number of rotations expected from Tuchel, a momentary lapse in concentration will probably allow Brentford to equalise, taking the game to penalties where the Blues will hopefully prevail.
Mike Malley: 1-1 Draw (CHE wins on pens.)
A lot of people trash the Carabao Cup as a meaningless trophy with no real significance, but no one would deny its ability to produce some incredibly entertaining fixtures. This, however, will likely not be one of them. The Blues handled the Bees efficiently last time these clubs got together, with the match finishing 1-0 in favor of the European Champions, and another assured victory on Wednesday is all Chelsea supporters are asking for. Will Arrizabalaga be the shootout hero again? I think so.
Kevin Peacock: 0-0 Draw (BRE 4-5 CHE on pens.)
Not sure what to expect from this game but Brentford has barely played for the last two weeks and Chelsea has had a whole heap of games. This could quite easily go either way. Chelsea’s yoof may gel or more likely, the Bees will raise their game, as they normally do, and trounce their wealthy neighbours. Not being one to predict a defeat though, so will stick with a 0-0 and Arrizabalaga to do the business on penalties.
Abhishek Pancholi: 0-4 Chelsea
Chelsea will start with a collection of players whose shirt numbers almost add up to Thiago Silva’s age on whatever planet he’s from, but they will still have enough in the armory to smash Brentford. The Blues machine will take some time to get going, but when it all clicks together, it’s going to be one of those memorable academy days.
Gabe Henderson: 2-2 Draw (BRE 3-4 CHE on pens.)
Brentford wants a win, Chelsea wants to stay healthy. This game will feature a lot of rotation from Tuchel and thus, it’ll be fairly sloppy from the Blues’ point of view. Nevertheless, they’ll manage to get the game to penalties as they’ve done in previous rounds and win because Arrizabalaga doesn’t lose shootouts.
