3: Bring Jules Kounde to west London

Before diving into the logistics, it must be said that this transfer should have taken place in the summer before the current campaign. At that point, all of the Blues’ supporters exclaimed that it would have been a luxury to have Jules Kounde at Chelsea. Now, fast forward six months and Chelsea have four centerbacks out of contract in the summer. Only one of them seems close to signing a new deal and that’s Thiago Silva.

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger seem more likely to leave now, as opposed to staying like it looked like a few months ago. Although Cesar Azpilicueta and Silva may re-sign, that doesn’t fix the Blues’ issues at centerback for the long-term future. If both Rudiger and Christensen leave, Chelsea would only have Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, the current loanees and possibly Xavier Mbuyamba as potential options for years to come. Therefore, the Blues need to fix this issue now and not wait until the summer where there will be more competition for Jules Kounde’s signature.

Kounde seems like he is doing his most to secure a transfer out of Seville with the young French defender deliberately throwing the ball at Jordi Alba’s head to get a red card in Sevilla’s last league match on Dec 21. Now, it’s Chelsea’s turn to go get the 23-year-old out of La Liga and bring him to Stamford Bridge. This transfer would give Tuchel time to plan for life without the defenders in case none of them end up inking a new deal. Further, it gives the Blues one of the most talented centerback prospects in world football. Who doesn’t love the sound of that?

Those are just some of the transfers that I believe Chelsea should look into this month. If the Blues want to insert some fresh air into a squad that has mainly faltered in the month of December and look to get our season back on track, they need to consider making a number of moves relatively soon.
