Mason Mount (No. 19) Right attacking midfielder, England

Mount was rested against Manchester City, just as he was in the reverse fixture. He has not been great in recent games, but he’s never far away from entering top gear again. He has played a lot of games lately though, so it was expected that he’d be dropped/rested. Chelsea drew their last game against Brighton, Mount’s work rate and chemistry with the other forwards would be crucial in getting the desired result in this game. Some would prefer to say that Chelsea lost the game because of Mount’s absence but it was pretty clear to see that at no point did it not look obvious Manchester City were in control of the game

Callum Hudson-Odoi (No. 20) Left attacking midfielder, England

Hudson-Odoi came on against Manchester City and he wasn’t good either. It was more of the same of what the man who went off for him produced. Of course all the forwards had nightmares so there’s no lesson to be learnt from there. The next game is two days away so the youngster likely gets a chance to impress again.

Kai Havertz (No. 29) Center forward, Germany

Havertz is due a start. Romelu Lukaku didn’t have a good game but his performance is being over scrutinized, as it was bound to be in the aftermath of the interview. Lukaku has played several games in a very short period of time. Havertz was expected to start against Manchester City, especially because Lukaku played all 90 minutes against Spurs in midweek. Chelsea needs fresh legs against Brighton as they’d need to match Brighton’s work rate. Havertz has a lot of offer, but like Tuchel has said, his development should not be rushed. No one gains if his development is rushed.
