Chelsea 4-0 Burnley player ratings: Kai Havertz brace inspires Blues
Mason Mount (Right winger): 4/10
Mason Mount was at mostly fault for Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final and it looks like his lack of confidence of late is showing. Mount was poor throughout the game at Burnley; he just could not get comfortable. The Englishman’s passes were all over the place with no real intent. There was even a couple times where he stopped the link-up play in the final third with poor positioning. I don’t want to be too hard on Mount but that’s now two games in close succession that he’s been poor. It looks time to try a front three of Havertz, Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech to give Mount a rest ahead of some massive upcoming fixtures.
Kai Havertz (Center forward): 8.5/10
The Silky German, he’s just what we need! Havertz was excellent again as he is really growing into his own. Chelsea has notably struggled with strikers over the years, but Havertz could very well be the solution to that problem. His movement was great as he found creative spaces in behind Burnley’s back line on multiple occasions. This was evidenced by his first goal at the 53′ as he scored a great header, leaning on the last defender. His second goal was scored quickly after his first, and it was an example of what the Blues have been missing this season. Too often, they have had strikers not latch at a chance at the low ball coming in or bundle the opportunity. Although the finish was unorthodox, Havertz was able to get it over the line, and it’s those lethal finishes that Chelsea has been seeking since the days of Diego Costa.
Christian Pulisic (Left winger): 7/10
There is just something about Turf Moor that gets Pulisic scoring. The American added to his goal tally for the season with a clever finish in the 69′ after a mistake from Burnley left him onside and one-on-one with the keeper. However, for large parts of the game, Pulisic was poor. He was picking up awkward positions in the final third and looked lost during times. Regardless, he came to life in the second half. His first contribution was a great cross to Havertz from the edge of the box for the team’s second goal, and his own goal was the fourth. This now marks the third game in a row where Tuchel has started Pulisic in his preferred left wing position—discounting the Luton game. If he continues this form, he might just hold on to that spot for the rest of the season.
