Despite the numerous distractions surrounding Stamford Bridge at the moment, the Chelsea squad doesn’t appear to be fazed at all. The boys in blue have won their last two matches by a combined scoreline of 7-1 and look to really be humming on offense for the first time since October. It must be said that Burnley and Norwich are not the most formidable foes in the Premier League, but the European Champions have certainly raised their level recently.

The Blues’ next opponent, unlike the Clarets and Canaries, is a club on the rise. Newcastle United, perhaps unsurprisingly, has looked like a different team since the January transfer window. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last eight, including three consecutive league victories, and have all but secured their spot in next season’s English top flight. The oddsmakers don’t seem to value form in this instance though, and are still favoring Chelsea heavily on the moneyline in Sunday’s match-up. I’m wary of a Newcastle upset, so I’ll be looking at props closer than I normally would.

Here is the gambling guide to Sunday’s contest between Chelsea and Newcastle

Supporters of these two sides will obviously be watching with a great vested interest, but there should be something in this contest for the neutrals, as well. The Blues are not the only team to make serious attacking improvements in recent weeks, as the Magpies have found the back of the net in every game during their current unbeaten run and scored two goals in three successive matches. Newcastle’s aforementioned winter window arrivals and Joelinton’s transformation into prime Andres Iniesta are largely responsible for this, but Eddie Howe deserves credit for galvanizing his forwards too. Expect goals, and lots of them, from both clubs in west London. I love over 2.5 total goals at -145 odds and I will be active on the other scoring props, as well.

The Bridge has been a house of horrors for the Toon Army over the past few years, as they have lost eight straight matches at Chelsea’s home ground. Last season’s fixture finished 2-0 with goals from Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud making the difference. This stretch of utter dominance should give Thomas Tuchel and his boys confidence heading into Sunday, but Howe has always been a thorn in the side of the club world champions. His 60 percent winning percentage at Stamford Bridge is the best among any opposing manager who has been in charge for more than a few games at the venue. I can’t justify betting the Blues moneyline (-290 odds) with that man on the opposing touchline.

Official odds (via WynnBet as of March 12)

Chelsea ML: -290
Newcastle United ML: +900
Draw: +415
Over/Under: 2.5 goals (-145/+115)

My picks

Like I said before, betting the final result in this match has me nervous, so I’m going to bail on that altogether. I like the both teams to score prop at +105 odds and, subsequently, over 2.5 total goals in the match at -145. I was particularly impressed by Mason Mount against Norwich and I am hoping he can continue to turn his form around after a rough patch at the beginning of 2022. I’ll back him as an anytime goalscorer at +490 odds to bring some real value to my picks.
