It’s been another long and eventful week for those in and around Chelsea Football Club. In addition to the news that Roman Abramovich planned to sell the club, the Russian oligarch has now been sanctioned by the UK government. This has directly impacted the Blues, despite previous reports the club would be left alone. As it stands, Chelsea cannot sell tickets, merchandise or use club credit cards, which is only the tip of the iceberg. On a grander scale, the club cannot buy, renew or sell players. This has led to the financial aspect of things becoming a bit tricky lately.

All of the rumors surrounding these latest developments are almost impossible to escape. They’re all over social media, in the papers and on the television, so it’s difficult to imagine the stress the players are under. Nevertheless, Thomas Tuchel has had his men focused as they’ve put together a nice little unbeaten run in the Premier League. The Blues easily dispatched of Burnley and Norwich City in their last two matches, they will look to make it a third win over a relegation battling side against Newcastle on Sunday.

Here is how The Pride of London team sees the contest playing out:

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 2-0 Chelsea

The Blues will welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge wearing only God knows what on Sunday. Chelsea has been hit with sanctions and it is essentially being crippled in the amount of things it cannot do. It’s a wonder that the Blues’ players were able to even focus on the football match against Norwich. They’ll need more of that focus against the Magpies.

Gerald Baffour: 3-1 Chelsea

Please believe me when I say the Blues will be just fine. Don’t pay attention to the press’ games and fan banter. Chelsea is one of the most sought after sports teams in the world. Supporters say the sanctions are just politics, don’t pay it attention, a sale to richer owners is on the way. Keep an eye out on the Saudi Media consortium group. Regarding the game, there is only one place to look and that’s Kai Havertz. The Geramn has finally ended the Blues’ search for a striker. Newcastle is in fine form, but look for Chelsea to create opportunities with space to link up with Havertz.

Tan Yi Hao: 3-1 Chelsea

I honestly do feel that Newcastle’s recent performances have been rather overstated. The Magpies have not faced a top six side since playing Manchester United on the 28th of December and Chelsea undoubtedly possess the personnel necessary to claim all three points at home. Havertz to score again, and Lukaku to find his way onto the scoresheet, as well.

Caden Charpentier: 3-1 Chelsea

The Magpies have been playing well in the league, winning three consecutive games. The last time Newcastle lost a league match was back on December 19 against Manchester City, but I don’t read too much into it. This Newcastle team is below average. The coming encounter with Tuchel and the Blues is just not the sight this team wants to see. The competition has not been up to par for the Magpies and they will be in for a rude awakening when the likes of Mason Mount and Havertz are heading for their back line.

Bo Martin: 2-1 Chelsea

What a week it has been for Chelsea players, staff and fans alike. Somehow this squad seems to thrive in these situations with its back against the wall. The fans need the players to set an example of resilience and Tuchel looks to have this team ready to battle. I expect Hakim Ziyech and Lukaku to feature in this match-up and, as they seem to have chips on their shoulder, it’s reasonable to predict a statement goal from both players. Through ball control, strong defense and strong emotions, the Blues win an important one against a Newcastle squad on the rise.

Olly Smith: 2-0 Chelsea

Newcastle has been in good form as of late but it’s going to be a different task for the Magpies to even compete with the Blues in the state of flux they are in. Chelsea will take the lead through a Jorginho penalty. Speaking of good form, Havertz will get on the scoresheet again … the writing is on the wall, bye bye Mr. Lukaku.

Gabe Henderson: 2-0 Chelsea

I seldom pick against this side under normal circumstances, so I definitely won’t do that given the fact the team’s back is against the wall. Havertz and Mount are in scorching form, I think they’ll give the uncharacteristically small Stamford Bridge crowd a reason to stand up on their feet at least once. The Blues win and they take one step closer to securing a top four spot.

Anthony Gatt: 2-1 Chelsea

Despite all the sanctions and limits on what this club can do, these players still have a job to do and they have to remain focused. Newcastle is on fire and the Blues have to be carefully not to take them lightly. Havertz double and a Chelsea 2-1 win.

Leighton September: 3-0 Chelsea

Newcastle is in good form, Chelsea will find it difficult at times. However, Tuchel will get the Blues focused and ready for this match.

Mike Malley: 3-1 Chelsea

The Blues have absolutely owned this fixture recently, winning their past eight matches against Newcastle at Stamford Bridge. Eddie Howe, on the other hand, is the winningest manager in west London in the history of the Premier League. Which will prevail, the unstoppable force or the immovable object? I like Chelsea, but this won’t be an easy win.

Kevin Peacock: 2-1 Chelsea

I’ve read enough about the Blues over the last few days to have any enthusiasm to now write about them. Chelsea wins, haters lose.
