Chelsea potential ownership insight: Sir Martin Broughton’s consortium
Michael Klein
The most obvious finance type of the group is American Michael Klein. The investment banker appears much more well-rounded and interesting than a huge amount of his contemporaries. Klein has experience at several of the large American financial institutions. He has also been labeled the so-called “King of SPACS,” which stand for Special Purpose Acquisition Company, of which he has been the head of seven of them. Klein has a long history of interests in humanitarian work. He seems to be a consistently powerful and efficient operator in financial circles.
Vivek Ranadive
The businessman and famous story from Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers is the owner of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. Frustratingly, the Kings are perennial doormats in the NBA and that hasn’t changed much since Vivek Ranadive took over the team back in 2013. That said, he has at the bare minimum made legitimate attempts to get the team out of the basement that it has dwelled comfortably in for well over a decade.
Ranadive was originally part of the group that bought and rebuilt the Golden State Warriors before selling his shares at a profit for a larger piece of the Sacramento team. The tech millionaire—his net worth stands at some $700 million (£535 million)—is considered to be an outside the box thinker and he is one of the favored personalities amongst league owners. As with many of the other owners on this list, he is also invested in several other projects through his venture capital company.
