Chelsea at Everton predicted XI: First time foes of Frank Lampard
Mason Mount (No. 19) Right winger, England
James was mentioned earlier as one of the biggest beneficiaries of Lampard’s appointment at Stamford Bridge. However, there is no player that benefitted more than Lampard’s so-called son, Mason Mount. Mount broke through in the English game under Lampard at Derby County before immediately slotting into the first team under the Chelsea legend the following season at his parent club. Mount has been an integral figure in every team since, going on to become one of the players crucial to Tuchel’s success thus far.
Mount will face off against his former manager on Sunday in his newfound role of a winger under Tuchel. The 23-year-old has a club-high 27 goal involvements this season, a tally that he’ll be looking to add to on Merseyside this weekend. Mount was the lone goalscorer against Rafa Benitez’s Toffees back in December, can he be a game-changer against his idol’s squad?
Kai Havertz (No. 29) Center forward, Germany
Kai Havertz has gone relatively cold recently—relatively speaking. The German forward almost single handedly dragged the Blues through a tough period at the start of the new year as he emerged as their main goalscoring threat up front. He’s Chelsea’s leading scorer in all competitions at the moment with 13 goals to go along with his six assists. Regardless of how much people hate the simple claim that he makes the Blues’ system more fluid, it’s almost undeniable at this point in time. Havertz has gone five straight games without scoring. He found himself on the end of some great chances that he failed to convert against Manchester United, it’s time for him to break out once again.
Christian Pulisic (No. 10) Left winger, United States
Christian Pulisic has been hot and cold this year, but he’s still genuinely had a better season than many will give him credit for. The American tends to pop up when Tuchel needs a goalscorer the most—the West Ham match being a great example—and he’ll need the winger to put in a good shift against Everton. Pulisic gets into the side over Timo Werner due to his dribbling ability.
