Chelsea at Everton: Premier League gambling guide

Chelsea’s performance against Manchester United on Thursday can only be described as lackadaisical. The forwards missed an alarming number of goal-scoring opportunities and a moment of mental malaise at the back—yet again—led to useful points being dropped. The Blues really should have a spot in next year’s Champions League wrapped up at this point, and although top four seems secure right now, nothing is guaranteed in what has arguably been the most dramatic season in the club’s history.

As the European Champions have struggled for consistency over the past few months, so have my picks for The Pride of London. Going zero for six over the preceding two matches has been particularly painful, but fear not my dear readers, the skid stops here. In honor of Todd Boehly’s reportedly imminent $4.4 billion takeover of Chelsea, I am guaranteeing at least two out of three successful picks for the clash at Goodison Park. The stability provided by new ownership will hopefully righten my recent gambling record, as well as improve the Blues’ performances on the pitch. It’s crucial for the team to build momentum with the FA Cup final only two weeks away.

Here is your gambling guide for the contest between Chelsea and Everton

I hate to speak poorly of a Stamford Bridge legend, but Frank Lampard’s time as Toffees’ manager has been nothing short of a disaster. The famous Merseyside club has fallen into an unforeseen relegation battle with the likes of Burnley and Leeds United, and looks to be heading further toward the Championship with every passing matchweek. Everton has only won three games since the legendary Chelsea No. 8’s appointment at the end of January. The team is simply unable to find the back of the net with any level of consistency. I like the Blues’ clean sheet prop a lot for this meeting between two of English football’s stalwarts, especially considering the value at +130.

One reason for the Toffees’ attacking struggles has been their incredible overreliance on Richarlison making things happen by himself. The Brazilian forward has scored or assisted on four of Everton’s previous five goals and he is the club’s most influential player with 11 Premier League contributions. Incredibly, though, it appears as though his individual performance doesn’t mean much to the final result, as merely two of the six matches he’s scored in resulted in victories for his team. Everton having accumulated only seven wins in total this season is a much more worrying statistic, and one that I think will have more bearing on the outcome at Goodison. Give me Chelsea on the moneyline, -140.

My picks

As I mentioned, I’ve been pretty cold lately, so I don’t blame anyone who’s reading this just to fade me. The two-thirds guarantee is also pretty risky, but I like the juju surrounding the club now that Boehly’s takeover is inevitable. A Chelsea victory (-140) and clean sheet (+130) are two really strong plays that I’ll definitely be riding on Sunday afternoon. In addition to those picks, I think the Blues will grab an early lead, so I’ll also take Chelsea over 0.5 first half goals at -120 odds. I really have no malice toward Everton, but I would like to see some new teams in the English top flight next season. Seeing Liverpool supporters happy would be a bummer, though.
