Leeds 0-3 Chelsea player ratings: Mount, Pulisic, Lukaku net
Mason Mount (Right winger): 9.5/10
Mount wasted no time putting the Blues ahead as he came to the team’s rescue again. Supporters had barely gotten settled in their seats at Elland Road by the time the Cobham graduate found the back of Illan Meslier’s net. This only helped the young English phenom grow in confidence—and it showed. His positive connections with James and Romelu Lukaku were obvious throughout the match. The quick passages of play really gave Leeds problems throughout the contest.
Mount became the first Chelsea player to tally 20 goals plus assists in the league since Eden Hazard a few seasons ago with his goal and assist in Yorkshire. His 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League has the Blues sitting pretty with one leg into the Champions League.
Romelu Lukaku (Striker): 9/10
Are we witnessing the resurgence of Lukaku? The club record signing increased his tally to 14 goals on the season—a respectable tally considering the circumstances—with the team’s third on the night. His composed finished put the game to bed in the closing stages. Fans can say what they will about the Belgian’s actions immediately leading up to his . . . interesting . . . goal, but there is no argument as to whether or not he deserved it. Lukaku looked confident in front of a ruckus Elland Road crowd and it was obvious from the opening kickoff that he was determined to get a goal.
Unlike at the weekend, Tuchel gave his No. 9 an entire match to continue his good goalscoring form, and Lukaku delivered. That’s now three goals in two games for the striker, surely he earned himself a start against Liverpool in the FA Cup final.
Christian Pulisic (Left winger): 8.5/10
Pulisic had a forgettable first half. During a period where his fellow forwards were firing on all cylinders, the American looked rather uninspired. However, it didn’t take long for him to kick it into gear during the second half. The Blues’ numeric successor to Eden Hazard and Willian popped up with a goal that his predecessors would have been proud of to double Chelsea’s lead. When Pulisic’s crisp, inch-perfect strike found the back of the net, it acted as the fatal blow to a home side that had already looked defeated. There’s no telling where this game would’ve gone if not for the United States international’s crucial goal to double the Blues’ advantage.
