The day following a final loss is never easy. But it does start to get better after that, I promise! While it might be more difficult for Mason Mount. The stunningly talented attacking midfielder – can he actually be considered a type of forward now? – has lost a ridiculous amount of clinchers. In six attempts in deciders at Wembley, the Chelsea star has lost all of them: the 2019 English Football League Play-offs, the 2020 FA Cup, the 2021 FA Cup, the 2022 League Cup and Saturday’s clash, the 2022 FA Cup.

And the awful list of Mount’s includes the last game of Euro2020, when England lost to Italy in 2021’s delayed tournament. Though Pride of London fully back the 23-year-old to clinch as many titles, or more, at the Home of Football in the near future. That prediction especially goes now that we know CFC shall be in the extremely capable and wealthy hands of Todd Boehly and his consortium of useful and knowledgeable allies. During his post-match press conference, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel divulged that he had “no regrets” from the defeat to Liverpool. In fact, the German informed media and his team that he was “proud” to lead them before the encounter, and remained of that view afterwards.

Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel and Romelu Lukaku criticise agent for underhand move

In all honesty, Pensioners supporters have much more to be excited as well as optimistic about as they look ahead to another campaign challenging at the top of the world’s toughest division, the Premier League. Not to mention the added attraction of fresh, dedicated, powerful ownership. Retaining the contemporary Chels’ manager is vital to upcoming campaigns; don’t forget that the majority of this side lifted the UCL trophy last term.

Talking of Tuchel, his presser prior to the capital contest offered much to analyse and talk about as well. However, one specific part was more significant to this particular piece than the previous section covering Mount’s misfortune. The German implied that he has been blindsided by Romelu Lukaku‘s agent; the gaffer appeared more disappointed than irritated as he attempted to prepare for the Reds showdown. The agent in question here, Federico Pastroello, undoubtedly confirmed a comeback in Italy is a possibility. Tuchel even said he’d only just been told of the former’s quote, and that maybe Pastroello only wants to speak with Boehly and not to him.

On this occasion, it seems as though Lukaku was not at fault: he published a cryptic Instagram post alluding blame onto his representative. Furthermore, the striker claims nobody speaks for him. So, maybe the latter has learned his lesson now. Unlike the time the Belgium international gave an interview while at Chelsea suggesting that tactics were wrong; or certainly being critical of an unsuitable style. In addition to upsetting CFC fans, naturally, by revealing that he wanted to return to Inter Milan at some point, after only landing back in England about six months prior.

Could another annoyance emanating from Lukaku’s camp have hampered preparations or mind set ahead of their fateful Wembley outing? Possibly. Yet I feel the attacker is innocent here and felt more focused in recent weeks. We all know it is kind of the job for reps in Pastroello’s position to stir the pot, unfortunately. The only way he gets a fresh, bumper pay day is arguably orchestrating another transfer for his client.
