I must admit, most of Pride of London’s contributors and editors expected there to be signings at Chelsea by now. In complete candour I went to great length explaining why Todd Boehly is a great choice to takeover at the helm of CFC. And I am still firmly of that viewpoint. You see, it appears that new ownership are not exactly circumspect over additions to the side, but possibly have a slightly more cautious approach overall in comparison to the Roman Abramovich era. It certainly is not time to panic about nobody new joining the senior Blues squad as of now.

Yes it is baseball, albeit a different sport, but Boehly and his group did wonders for the LA Dodgers. It took time, though the famous team once again became a powerhouse in the game under the guidance of the billionaire. Evidently the 48-year-old has devoted himself to the multiple roles he’s ended up with as previous staff departed Fulham Road. Boehly has reportedly almost lived on an airplane and at the end of a phone for the last few weeks. He endeavours to acquire the talent Thomas Tuchel requires to maintain the highest of status we are all accustomed to. It remains likely that patient fans shall be rewarded with premium stars coming to Stamford Bridge.

Discussions said to be advanced in Chelsea’s transfer pursuit to re-sign centreback Nathan Ake

Meshing seamlessly with my attempt to reassure the Blues faithful before they get really upset by a lack of positive news, is an important update from a typically good source. According to Nizaar Kinsella, now of Evening Standard, the Chelsea hierarchy and Tuchel are hoping to capture at least ‘one of their two main defensive targets’ as soon as possible.

Kinsella believes a potential acquisition might even emerge this week. Negotiations are supposedly ongoing over former Blue Nathan Ake, who is currently an understudy at Manchester City to Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and, arguably, John Stones as well.

Clearly it is a waste for the ex-Bournemouth man to be sitting on the substitute’s bench. Even if he is collecting medals, he deserves to be playing regular Premier League football. A competent, proven, left-sided competitor is needed in the CFC defence – Ake is the person they seemingly want. The price tag is slightly high in my opinion, however, quality does not come cheap.

Man City are apparently seeking to ‘recoup the £41million’ invested in their asset. Although Chels’ should be content with that rather high approximate valuation, City are looking for a replacement for the Netherlands international. That Citizens desire could always cause a further issue in the prospective agreement. With respect to progress, the journalist reports that ‘discussions regarding Ake are thought to be more advanced’ than those concerned with Matthijs de Ligt.

So, we have confirmation that the West London club are also talking to Matthijs de Ligt’s representatives. Presumably CFC are in direct contact with Juventus, too. It it unclear at this point just how close discussions are over de Ligt, with Bayern Munich hovering for the centrehalf.

My conclusion is that the Blues need both Dutchmen at present. Due to the leavers and possible exits, maybe three ‘CBs’ are ultimately needed. Unforeseen moves and renewals could affect that assessment. Going for Ake after Levi Colwill has been properly assessed in preseason would perhaps be the wisest plan.
