Chelsea transfer window round-up: June 28 to July 11
The last few weeks of the summer transfer window were the worst for Chelsea fans thus far as nothing new emerged from the transfer mill. This is why there was no weekly transfer round-up during the third week, there was nothing to report per se. However, the fourth week helped us understand why that happened. To the amazement of all supporters, there was even a ‘here we go’ announcement from Fabrizio Romano.
Slowly but surely, the Blues’ transfer window is taking shape. This is music to supporters’ ears as it’s almost time to kick off the 2022/23 campaign. The Chelsea squad has flown to the United States for its preseason preparations, but not without a few surprise omissions and to the frustration of fans, some inclusions, as well. The Blues will play four total friendlies against the likes of Club America, Charlotte FC, Arsenal and Udinese before the season kicks off in August. This is the time when players such as Ethan Ampadu, Levi Colwill, Connor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and many more can stake their claim on the first team squad.
Barcelona is being linked with every football player in the world, which is very difficult to understand as it is in debt to banks and yet to pay millions of euros to its players in deferred payments. Regardless, the Blaugrana are stepping on Chelsea’s toes during every opportunity they can in the transfer window. Even taking all of this into consideration, it is being said that they are about to finalize a deal for Leeds United winger Raphinha for £63 million. That is not the end of it either. Barcelona is still hoping to sign players like Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jules Kounde and Robert Lewandowski, all of whom are either the Blues’ players or targets. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what Joan Laporta is doing is just absurd, but it is what it is.
Let’s leave Barcelona to its shenanigans—which surely won’t come back to haunt it—and focus on this week’s transfer round-up regarding Chelsea:
