Chelsea transfer window round-up: June 28 to July 11
3. Chelsea names its price for multiple first team players
Recently, we saw the new Chelsea owner and acting chairman, Todd Boehly, in Barcelona having a meal with the aforementioned Barca president, Laporta. Coming out of the restaurant all, Boehly gave the Spanish media with a cheeky remark—”great food”—but now it was clear that the two sides met to talk. The discussions were based around players such as Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Sergino Dest and many more.
For Barcelona manager Xavi, Alonso and Azpilicueta are seen as priority signings. The Blaugrana have been pushing the Blues for a sale all summer long. Chelsea is in a precarious situation when it comes to first team defenders after the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, but now after extensive discussions, the Blues have set their asking price for both players. Chelsea wants up to £7 million for the club captain, but in Spain, it is being reported that the La Liga side believes the fee is excessive and not in line with the market. Shocking! The same amount is also stated for Alonso, but that is something that the Blues are willing to negotiate.
Boehly feels that due to Azpilicueta’s high level of experience, his leadership and the fact he is rarely ever injured, his side should not be letting him go for free. Chelsea would also be keen to secure a replacement before losing out on the defender as the back line would be very light if not. Should the Blues complete the signing of Nathan Ake, it could leave the door open for Azpilicueta to depart this summer.
Another player who is close to leaving the club this summer is Hakim Ziyech. The Moroccan recently announced that he would be taking more control of his career. In a post online, he said:
"“I want negotiations and decisions about my career to be made by me. So, moving forward, my team and I, together with our legal representatives, will handle the business side of things.”"
Nothing is finalized between AC Milan and Chelsea, but it is expected that Ziyech will leave the club, potentially on loan with any deal of the sorts including an obligation to buy. In the total package, Chelsea is hoping to receive a figure of around £25 million including loan fees and all other charges. Reports—specifically Fabrizio Romano—are stating that Ziyech is a priority signing for the Scudetto winners, so it is just a matter of time before this signing is confirmed.
