Central midfielder: Billy Gilmour

Even after falling out of favor under Norwich City manager Daniel Farke, Billy Gilmour managed to re-establish himself in the Canaries’ midfield under Dean Smith. His accurate and effective passing made him one of the key players for the relegated squad. In the absence of the aforementioned Kante and Loftus-Cheek, the managerial staff will need to turn to Gilmour. Despite a relatively underwhelming season in a poor Norwich side, many firmly believe that the Scot’s still got the ability to replace Jorginho in midfield when he inevitably moves back to Italy.

Central midfielder: Conor Gallagher

Conor Gallagher was a massive success at Crystal Palace last season. The 22-year-old, who spent the year on loan with Patrick Vieira’s Eagles, won the club’s Player of the Year award. He ended up scoring eight goals and also provided five assists along the way to capturing this accolade. Gallagher’s performances helped him earn his England senior call-up, as well. He was monumental for Crystal Palace as he was one of the most efficient and crucial players. Now, it’s been confirmed that the English midfielder will remain with Tuchel’s team next season. Expect him to step up as the Blues were left exposed very often in the centre of the park last season due to Kante’s poor injury record.

Central attacking midfielder: Harvey Vale

The Academy Player of the Season, who made his senior debut under Tuchel last campaign, captained the England U19 to European Championship triumph earlier this summer. Chelsea’s teenage baller possesses excellent leadership qualities, which made him the talk of the club at Cobham over the last few weeks. Vale spent time on improving his physical stature this summer and he will now look to gain some game time during the preseason as he looks to slot in as a semi-regular first team player this year.
