Chelsea vs Club America score predictions: Preseason win
It’s been a long two months away for Chelsea, but after weeks of waiting, football has finally returned. The Blues travelled stateside last week to kick off their preseason tour of the United States. Thomas Tuchel and Co. first touched down in Los Angeles, where they trained for a few days to prepare for the upcoming fixtures. Raheem Sterling was unveiled as the club’s first signing of the summer as the team trained in the heat at UCLA. Now, it’s wheels up to Las Vegas.
The Chelsea squad landed in Las Vegas on Friday and trained at Allegiant Stadium that evening, the home of its first friendly fixture. Kalidou Koulibaly—the second summer signing—joined up with the team in the City of Lights. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that either Koulibaly or Sterling features during the team’s first preseason contest on Saturday evening, but don’t rule out appearances midweek against Charlotte FC. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though. All eyes are on the Sin City as the Blues prepare to take on Club America in their first bit of action ahead of the highly anticipated 2022/23 campaign.
Here is how The Pride of London team sees the inaugural preseason friendly playing out:
Varun Dani: 2-0 Chelsea
We’ll start off with our tried and tested 3-4-3 before Tuchel takes another shot at four at the back, much like the preseason last year. Ethan Ampadu, Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill and Conor Gallagher continue to impress. Hakim Ziyech and the aforementioned Sterling get the goals in Las Vegas for a good start to the American tour.
Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 4-0 Chelsea
Even in preseason mood, the Blues will prove to be too much for Club America. The game doesn’t have any significance whatsoever, so the players aren’t pressured at all. Many loaness will likely get minutes in this match too, and the carefree nature of the match will help the young players to do well against the Mexican giants.
Caden Charpentier: 3-0 Chelsea
No significance in the result at all. Hopefully the fans get a chance to see some of the younger players wear the brand new Chelsea kits in preseason.
Nate Hofmann: 1-1 Draw
Not a lot of reason to get worked up for this one. At this point in the preseason, it’s more of an aerobic exercise than a display of footballing prowess, and that’s totally fine. Frankly, the match is just a 90-minute interlude preventing the players from fully leaning into the trappings of Sin City, or it will at least delay the inevitable. Hopefully the hangovers wear off before I get to see them in Orlando next weekend.
Gabe Henderson: 1-2 Club America
Club America is in midseason form and the Blues are just kicking things off having returned to training last week. This will be the most experimental game for Tuchel and his players, so I don’t expect to see a strong starting XI at all. No Koulibaly or Sterling means there will also be a lot of inexperience in the team. A win would be nice, but in the end, the most important part of this one is building match fitness. For those of us attending the match, touring the spectacle that is Allegiant Stadium is just important. Great to be back.
