Hello Chelsea fans, I hope you’re having a good week. Let’s get straight to discussing one of the latest transfer rumours – prior to analysing a potentially huge one at the heart of this piece – and try to decide what is realistic and what is ridiculous. Starting with Wesley Fofana of Leicester City. This is one piece of speculation that I can possibly shed light on or offer fresh information to some people. I am sure some of you will know that I also edit FanSided’s Foxes of Leicester website, and therefore covered the exciting and very adept young Frenchman extensively over the years.

Fofana is considered by LCFC as one of the most important players on Filbert Way; he is debatably the preeminent athlete there. And I can guarantee you of the notable status. Along with James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and even arguably James Justin, the former Saint-Etienne defender is also probably the third most valuable. Maddison would pip the centreback here, as well as Barnes. This is mainly due to being attackers, whom always command the highest costs. Therefore the notion that Fofana can be gotten for less than Harry Maguire’s extortionate £80million approximate fee is most likely fanciful. In fact, Fofana’s quoted valuation appears to be more than the Manchester United man’s.

Should the Fox formerly request a move, the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital owned club can afford expenditure as significant as £85m – but is Fofana worth that amount? Taking everything into account, including inflated prices and the ruthless nature of the market, I would say that sum is excessive but necessary to secure talent of this ability.

At the tender age of 21, a future full France international, and already an eye-catching Premier League performer, Fofana could be the staple of the CFC backline for over ten years. If you contemplate the quality, durability and longevity of Thiago Silva, the Leicester man could be a Blue for around 15 seasons or longer. Though maintaining that level of play for so long is unlikely – you still get the point. But remember that the King Power team are tough negotiators.

Moving on to Harry Kane talk now, do PoL believe the England captain is a viable addition this summer? No, not in the slightest. And I will explain why. Firstly, Fabrizio Romano says there has been no contact. Romano subsequently claims Kane is thought of as “untouchable” by THFC; not that Daniel Levy would entertain selling to a direct competitor, anyway.

Thomas Tuchel did not rule out signing a specialist striker during this window. However, Kai Havertz is expected to be the main man up front in the coming campaign.

At risk of stating the obvious, the West and North London sides are notorious rivals. It is not the most fierce of derbies nor hatred – but there is tension. Only a handful of players have represented both Chels’ and Spurs during the EPL era.

Former CFC chairman Roman Abramovich actually appeared to block business with Tottenham. While this element may be over now with new ownership, it remains improbable that such a high profile athlete would swap allegiance presently. Just to kick the Kane speculation into touch almost entirely, there is a feeling that he is content under Antonio Conte. In addition, the 29-year-old might perhaps sign a new deal with the Lilywhites.
