Hello again, friends. I could not possibly be more excited for the start of the new Premier League season and with it, the return of The Pride of London‘s betting guides. Last year, our first putting out this series, wasn’t always the best in terms of pick accuracy. But we certainly had a lot of fun sweating out some thrilling, yet painful, results. I promise to be better this season, but I can’t guarantee any less drama during the actual matches. Those supporters who have experienced a full Chelsea campaign before will be well-versed in surviving these agonizingly tense affairs (especially when there is a wager in play) and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The upcoming year will be the true start of a new era at Stamford Bridge, with Todd Boehly at the helm of the biggest club in London. The Blues’ new American owner has already made his presence felt in the summer transfer market, as Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella have all joined Chelsea as the team looks to improve on last season’s disappointing conclusion. This weekend’s match against Everton will be a good barometer of the squad’s preparedness—which was at times questioned by Thomas Tuchel during the preseason—but should still be a strong opportunity to collect all three points.

Here is your gambling guide to Chelsea’s first Premier League match of the season against Everton

A match-up with the Toffees has not traditionally been of massive importance to the Blues’ supporters, but it took on a greater meaning when Frank Lampard was hired to be the manager on Merseyside in January. The former Chelsea boss and club legend is looking to restore his reputation after a mediocre stint on the Stamford Bridge sidelines, and admittedly did a decent job in engineering Everton’s escape from relegation toward the end of last season. Lampard’s squad is not nearly as talented as the one at Tuchel’s disposal, so it’s no surprise to see the west London side favored at -160 odds. However, some of the Blues’ performances during the preseason, specifically the 4-0 embarrassment against Arsenal, left a lot to be desired. I’m still riding the favorites on the moneyline in this instance, but I’m not as confident as I probably should be.

The former European champions’ lack of fluidity in attack has been noticeable during their tune-up games, so I’m not expecting a high-scoring contest, regardless of the final result. Tuchel clearly emphasized the need for more defensive rigidity in the market, which will hopefully help return Chelsea’s back line to its form of 2020/21. Additionally, with Richarlison having departed to Tottenham earlier this summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the opposition’s only real threat going forward. He’s out for the match. The goals total is currently set at 2.5, but I’m not particularly comfortable betting either way on that number, so I’ll forego improved odds for a better chance at winning the bet. Under 3.5 total goals at -325 odds is the right pick, in my opinion.

Official odds (via WynnBet as of August 8)

Chelsea ML: -160
Everton ML: +475
Draw: +295
Over/Under: 2.5 (-105/-115)

My picks:

First match of the season, folks, so let’s start on a positive note. I won’t go crazy with any guarantees or something else similar. Instead, I’ll just hope for good vibes from the gambling gods. First, give me the aforementioned Chelsea ML at -160, as well as under 3.5 total goals at -325. The latter obviously doesn’t provide much value, so definitely consider including it as part of a parlay. Finally, I’ll take the Blues to score first at -190 odds. As always, remember to bet responsibly, but let’s have a great first weekend and make some money!
