The opening day of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign is behind us. Arsenal‘s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace marked the beginning of the season, and now it’s time for the other 18 English top flight clubs to get the new season underway. Chelsea travels to Goodison Park for matchweek one in a rematch of a highly contested contest between former manager Frank Lampard and his successor, Thomas Tuchel. The relegation-scrapping Toffees won the match-up last season as the visitors looked about as sluggish as could be. It’s highly unlikely spectators will see Tuchel’s men simply going through the motions like they were last time.

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding this squad. Todd Boehly’s investment in his new club has fans buzzing after a couple of signings. The Blues are looking to add more to their ranks, but Tuchel believes what he’s got right now will be good for the time being. Chelsea has added Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka and now, Marc Cucurella. Aside from Slonina—who will spend the remainder of the year on loan with his now-former club, the Chicago Fire—everyone will presumably be in the squad on Merseyside.

The Blues have to get off to a hot start to calm the fanbase’s nerves after a shaky preseason. Unfortunately for them, Lampard’s team is also looking to prove a point amidst all of the talk of a relegation battle. It’ll be a normal scrappy affair from the blue half of Liverpool it seems.

Here is how The Pride of London team sees the contest playing out:

Olaoluwa Nwobodo: 0-3 Chelsea

Chelsea has brought in just enough signings to not destabilize the squad balance. Fans don’t expect to win the league this season, but they can sure expect the Blues to win games they’re supposed to win—this being one of them.

Bo Martin: 0-2 Chelsea

We’re back! It’s hard to know exactly how this match will turn out considering players are going to be settling still. Nevertheless, a strong start here can really build some good momentum and Tuchel’s Blues know that. Sterling will open the scoring early and Reece James will separate the squad in the second half.

Anthony Gatt: 0-2 Chelsea

Football is back. I have no clue who will be the starting XI for this game, but that makes it more exciting when we find out. Everton has several injuries including Calvert-Lewin, so without him or Richarlison, I don’t see any real attacking threat in the Toffees’ side. All of that being said, I believe Chelsea will 2-0 at Goodison Park with Kai Havertz and Mason Mount scoring and grabbing three points to start the season off well.

Gabe Henderson: 0-3 Chelsea

Anthony said it best—no Richarlison, no Calvert-Lewin, no party for Everton. The Blues simply have too much firepower all across the pitch. They need to start the season hot to keep up with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham, so expect a convincing victory at Goodison Park. Wow, there’s a sentence I never thought I’d be typing.

Barrett Rouen: 0-2 Chelsea

I think this will be a slow, start-and-stop match. Everton looks to be in pretty bad shape, so we’ll just have to hope Sterling and Mount score and everything else goes well.
