Chelsea vs Tottenham combined XI: 3-4-2-1 for all-London team
Right winger: Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham
Since arriving in north London in January, the Swede have been extraordinary. Dejan Kulusevski scored five goals and added eight assists in 18 appearances last season, adding that with a goal and an assist on opening weekend is truly spectacular. The 22-year-old has lit up the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during his time there and Conte even hailed him the “present and future” of the club. A bit harsh on Harry Kane though. There are so many players from both squads who could get into this position, but on present form, no one can touch Kulusevski’s place in this XI.
Striker: Harry Kane, Tottenham
England’s prince charming, Gareth Southgate’s get out of jail card many times for England and the man that could lead the Three Lions to World Cup glory in Qatar. Chelsea fans can’t stand the presence of Harry Kane, but one cannot deny his quality as a clinical center forward. He tallied 17 goals and nine assists during the ’21/22 Premier League season. The one position that the Blues are crying out for is a striker who can score goals on a regular basis—Kane epitomizes that description. Kai Havertz as a striker doesn’t seem the part and Raheem Sterling isn’t the one to score loads of goals as a false nine.
Chelsea is null and void currently in the goalscoring aspect, which ultimately adds Kane in this spot in the combined XI. The England captain hasn’t broken his August goalscoring duck yet and may that continue one more match at least, the Blues’ support will be hoping.
Left winger: Heung-min Son
Heung-min Son has been really impressive during his time in north London. The link-up he has with Kane is exceptional. The pair have combined for a total of 40 goals since their first match together in 2015. With Chelsea not showing a great deal of attacking threat on Merseyside at the weekend, it’s difficult to not put the Tottenham man in this team considering his all-around talent in addition to his performance on the opening weekend. Son assisting once and tallied two shots on target against Saints.
The Blues have a couple of players who could line up on the left wing, most notably the aforementioned Sterling. However, none of the options within the Chelsea ranks come close to touching Son in terms of impact. The South Korean was a joint-winner of the Golden Boot last year, as a winger. A hugely impressive feat indeed.
