Chelsea vs Tottenham predicted XI: Another 4-3-3 against Spurs?
Mason Mount (No. 19) Right winger, England
Mason Mount scored 11 league goals and registered 10 assists in the league last season. This is far more productive than anyone else was in the team, and in fact, Mount ranked joint-sixth for goal involvements league-wide. This explains why he is in the side. Mount, however, has a knack for disappearing in many games and not making many positive contributions.
Matchday 1 was one such game. For large parts of last season, Mount was underwhelming, even though he ended up being one of Chelsea’s most productive players. He is going to get more minutes playing as a forward this season than he got last season.
Kai Havertz (No. 29) Center forward, Germany
Kai Havertz was anonymous against Everton, but that wasn’t really his fault. Chelsea did not get its forwards involved enough. The Blues have Armando Broja waiting in the wings, but Havertz is still going to start for now. This season is Havertz’s last chance to show that he can be a steady goalscorer for the Blues as a No. 9.
Raheem Sterling (No. 17) Left winger, England
Raheem Sterling was deployed as a center forward/false nine in his first league game for Chelsea. This was baffling as Sterling is a left winger and he does his best work cutting inside from the left side or running behind the defense from the left. Keywords being “from the left side.” It’s difficult to find a reasonable excuse for playing Sterling through the middle, especially since Sterling has never been tagged a creator. Tuchel should not start with his unnecessary shuffling of the front line, otherwise he risks underutilizing his highest paid asset.
