Chelsea injuries: Kante, Mendy, Jorginho and Havertz
Before the Champions League game versus AC Milan, Pride of London outlines Chelsea injury news. This includes Edouard Mendy, Jorginho, Kai Havertz and N’Golo Kante.
Welcome, as we approach the middle of the week and the next Blues matchup. Milan are going to be very testing, I envisage a hard game that’ll be difficult to watch in stages. Yet this is a winnable game for CFC, even if the Rossoneri are atop the shared Champions League Group at this stage.
Chels’ head coach Graham Potter undertook his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon. A multitude of topics were discussed, along with some questions the former Swansea City boss wouldn’t answer. Those are transfer inquiries, if you’re wondering.
During the presser the ex-Brighton gaffer also disclosed some fitness details of his personnel. Thankfully for the west Londoners, all the new information is positive, in spite of a new knock for Kai Havertz and one for Jorginho. The Germany international ‘felt something’ following the final whistle of the Crystal Palace victory. Though he did resume training.
Italy’s midfielder is also back at Cobham but is a doubt to compete against the team from the country he represents. N’golo Kante is back at practice yet not quite involved to a full extent; the Frenchman is getting close, says Potter. There was also confirmation that Edouard Mendy would be in the matchday squad; I can’t see the Senegalese taking over from Kepa Arrizabalaga straight away, however.
As the tweet above appears to show, confidence and happiness is coming back to the Blues. In addition to that, each time I see the squad it feels stronger and more competitive than possibly first imagined. Some of the signings which were polarising for whatever reason are actually top-notch: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella.
Possible Chelsea starting lineup
The upcoming clash is must-win if Chels’ are to have a chance of progressing to the next UCL round. Below is the starting XI I believe Potter will use; a 3-4-2-1 formation may be employed:
Kepa; Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana; Ben Chilwell, Reece James; Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher; Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount; Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
