Heading into the break: Chelsea Women get Champions League draw
With all three points secured on Wednesday night at Kingsmeadow, the Blues head into an over two-week break without a game with plenty of momentum on their side. The loss to Liverpool on the road to begin the season may have been the wake-up call Emma Hayes, and her team needed for this season to be a memorable one. Seeing the form that Fran Kirby possesses so far this season, Sam Kerr finally gets on the scoresheet, and Ann-Katrin Berger back on the pitch makes it difficult to now have a stoppage in the train that looks to be gaining speed by the minute.
With national teams preparing for the World Cup, the goal for the next few weeks is without question to keep the Blues off of the injury list. Chelsea’s opening match loss to Liverpool might come back to bite the Blues, but the only thing Chelsea can do is to continue to build on what it has created before the players dispersed to their respective national teams. Right after the break, not only does the WSL season kick into high gear, the revenge tour in the Champions League begins with the Blues now knowing the path they need to cross in order to get into the quarterfinals.
