Pride of London discuss recently acquired centreback Wesley Fofana, as injury news is reported. This update includes a possible Chelsea return date.

The Blues defeated Champions League foe AC Milan in thrilling fashion on Wednesday evening. Graham Potter’s attack is genuinely becoming deadly, with the Italian champions representing a solid test. A victory which adds credence to the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion head coach with the major new job.

However, even tougher UCL matches await in order to truly test Potter’s credibility as a manager of a huge and expectant club. And ‘forget about it’ when it comes to the Premier League; for CFC to be a top four EPL side this season, more of the what was witnessed against Milan is required.

Potter certainly looked the part as he cut quite the James Bond-esque figure on the touchline; a classy transformation appeared to have taken place. But the exquisite Blues football, at times, was the real showstopper on the evening.

Young and pricey centreback Wesley Fofana looked more assured overall, as well as ready to show why he really is worth that enormous fee. And his night began so well via a slotted goal following a brief goalmouth scramble. His initial finish for CFC – hopefully first of many.

Sadly, the Frenchman, who has lofty ambitions and the talent to match, went down injured in the first half after netting. He was subsequently withdrawn and played no further part in the contest with the Rossoneri. After the final whistle, Fofana was seen leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches.

Reports have multiplied and developed as Thursday went on. According to L’Equipe, doctors have estimated that the 21-year-old might perhaps be unavailable for one month through a sprained knee. That update followed a supposed scan the day after the game. However, Fofana could be out for four-six weeks, says trusted journalist Nathan Gissing.

This outcome is, naturally, a real shame for the player as he finds his feet on Fulham Road, especially having recovered from a bad injury a while back whilst with Leicester City. Yet the diagnosis could have been much worse, so there is at least that relief. Trevoh Chalobah might now be given the minutes he’s arguably earned. Should the former Saint-Etienne footballer be fit in the shorter timeframe, he may play against Arsenal on November 6; the longer recovery implication could see Fofana uninvolved for Chelsea until after the World Cup.
